In Memory of Mike Richards

Melrose Township Fire & Rescue extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, fellow first responders, and all who had the privilege of knowing Mike Richards.

Mike was a retired member of Melrose Township Fire & Rescue and Boyne Valley Fire & EMS, dedicating many years of his life to serving his communities. His commitment to the fire and EMS service left an impact that extended far beyond either department.

Mike was more than a firefighter and EMT. He was a mentor, a teacher, a friend, and someone many in the fire and EMS community looked up to. He shared his knowledge and experience with others, helped guide those coming up behind him, and demonstrated what it meant to serve with integrity, humility, and dedication.

Before serving his communities as a first responder, Mike also proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and Army National Guard—a lifetime truly defined by service to others.

The fire and EMS community is a family, regardless of the name on the side of the truck or the patch on the uniform. When we lose one of our own, that loss is felt by all of us.

Although Mike had retired from active service, the lessons he taught, the people he mentored, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will continue to carry his legacy forward.

Rest easy, Mike. We’ll take it from here.

With respect and sympathy,
Melrose Township Fire & Rescue
