Talk about an awesome experience, our explorers got the chance to level up their skills at the ILYEA training held at Judson University! An experience that was both challenging and rewarding. During this training, they engaged in realistic scenarios including felony traffic stops, domestic disturbances, and critical first aid, such as Stop the Bleed techniques. Through these exercises, they demonstrated impressive teamwork and problem-solving skills, building strong camaraderie and learning the importance of trust and communication in high-pressure situations.
Today, the learning continued with a tour of the Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center (ACDC). Our explorers were warmly welcomed by three veteran dispatchers, Deputy Director Eric Burmeister, Professional Standards Coordinator Abigail Medina, and Dispatcher Annie Leath. The team delivered an engaging presentation on the history of ACDC, sharing its humble beginnings at the Addison police department and its growth into the state-of-the-art communications center it is today.
Explorers got to see a live active assailant scenario and were blown away by how Annie handled it all by staying calm, focused, and juggling a ton at once. It really showed how dispatchers are the behind the scenes heroes, keeping things running smoothly and helping keep everyone safe.
Explorers have been going on ride alongs and getting a real, firsthand look at what police officers do every day. They’ve seen how calls come in, how officers respond, and how fast things can change.
One Explorer said, “It’s been a cool way to learn what the job is really like, not just from books or videos, but by actually being there.”
We’re proud of our explorers’ commitment to learning. We are grateful for the dedicated advisors and police officers who help shape our future leaders.
