A Message from the Fire Chief

To the Residents of the City of Elmhurst, and our new friends visiting our page - Welcome and Glad to Meet You! All of us at the Elmhurst Fire Department, on behalf of the Mayor, Manager and City Council / Elected Officials, are pleased that you are taking the time from your day to visit with the Fire Department. Thank you for your support. Our charge is to

provide the highest skilled response to our residents and users in a time of need. We are ever challenged with the task of improving upon the Fire, Emergency Medical Services and Specialized Rescue that we provide, and work to be there whenever the need arises. The Elmhurst Fire Department continues to meet the challenges of change. That within itself is a great accomplishment. But, the real accomplishment is the positive attitude and the sheer determination of our personnel to make this Fire Department the benchmark of quality service in the Fire and Emergency Medical Services arena. Our continued promise is a doctrine to be a professional, well-prepared Emergency Services Provider, made possible through the commitment of the nation’s greatest firefighters. We continue to make the Elmhurst Fire Department a better and safer place in which to live, work, and recreate. On behalf of our Officers, Firefighters and Administrative Staff, thank you for the privilege of serving you! If I can be of any additional service to you on behalf of the Elmhurst Fire Department, please contact me. WE EXIST TO HELP PEOPLE! Anaszewicz, Acting Fire Chief

Elmhurst Fire Department's Save Our Pets Program
Keep your pets safe in the event of an emergency! The Elmhurst Fire Department is encouraging all pet owners to participate in the City's "Save Our Pets" program. The purpose of the program is to allow first responders to quickly identify a home with pets, so that in case of an emergency, they know what type of pets live in the home, and how many to look for. Pets are family; let us know who from your pet family we need to rescue in case of an emergency. The residential Knox Home Box program is available to residents with special needs, and is designed to provide secure emergency access to a home or property to those living alone or with a history of medical or mobility issues. When a fire breaks out or a medical emergency occurs, a Knox Home Box enables the Fire Department to gain immediate access to the home without causing damage or delay through forced entry. The boxes are meant to be placed over the top of the resident's front entry door. Inside, a key to the residence is securely placed for access by the Elmhurst Fire Department only. For information on obtaining a Knox Home Box, please call 630-530-3090.

Smoke Detector Safety Saves Lives
Did you know Illinois law requires all smoke detectors to have a 10-year, sealed, non-removable battery?
To keep your household safe, smoke detectors should be:
• Installed on every level of your home
• Located within 15 feet of all sleeping areas

The Elmhurst Fire Department is here to help. We offer free smoke detector installation and replacement for residents in need, with a special focus on supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities.

If you or a loved one need assistance, our firefighters will make sure your home is properly equipped and up to current safety standards.

Call the Elmhurst Fire Department to learn more or schedule assistance (630) 530-3090.
