Today we honor Charles McCune of Duck, West Virginia, who fell on this day in 2025. Charles served in the Army and is remembered by his son, Steven (.mccune):
"Charles Leon McCune, 79, of Duck, West Virginia, passed away peacefully under hospice care on June 20, 2025, in Fairmont, WV, due to complications from a long-term illness following a stroke.
Born on April 28, 1946, in Harrison, West Virginia, Charles was a proud veteran, devoted family man, and skilled tradesman. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 with the 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for Valor while being wounded in combat.
Following his military service, Charles went on to build a successful 40-year career as an electrician with USW Local 1104, working at RTI/US KOBE/US Steel in Lorain, Ohio, until his retirement. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Melodie McCune; his parents, Howard and Ivy McCune; and ten brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Birgit McCune (Trinemeyer); his daughters, Amy McCune (Berry) and Crystal McCune (Hunt); his sons, Eric McCune and Steven McCune; and nine cherished grandchildren.
An avid bulldog lover, Charles shared his life with many loyal companions over the years, including Opie Taylor and Lance. He enjoyed traveling, classic cars, being in the outdoors, and most of all, spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and lifelong friends. He found great peace in the hills of West Virginia and loved calling it home. Charles Leon McCune will be remembered for his strength, humor, patriotism, and the deep love he had for his family and his country."
