Look what's coming up in October! SAM WARREN MYCOLOGY CLASSES. Sam Warren is a citizen mycologist, Outdoor educator, and commercial mushroom forager from Almond, NY. Sam is certified in wild mushroom safety in 13 states as well as a NYSOGA licensed New York State hunting and hiking guide. His passion for mycology has found him leading forays, running workshops and speaking on panels at various mycology festivals across the North East. These classes will be limited in size so registration is required. The programs are funded by the Falconer Region Geographic Grant administered by Chautauqua Region Community Foundation Mark you calendars and call the library to register. register!
Mycology 101: Weds October 7, 7-8:30pm It begins with a short powerpoint that talks about some basic concepts of mycology and how mushrooms are used for our food, medicine, and ecosystems. We then look at lots of dried samples I’ve collected, pictures I’ve taken, notable species around the area, as well as examine spores and mycelium through a microscope.
Growing Mushrooms Weds Oct. 14, 7-8:30pm. In this workshop we cover an easily replicable, affordable method to turn our everyday waste into a delicious, nutritious snack. Everyone leaves with own bag of inoculated cardboard.
Cooking with Mushrooms Wed. Oct. 28 7-8:30pm. This class covers a couple tips and tricks when trying to incorporate popular edible mushrooms into your dishes as well as a couple recipes to take home and try.
