Ellicottville Memorial Library

Ellicottville Memorial Library We are proud and pleased to offer our services in our new facilities and welcome you to join us.

Our mission is to promote life-long literacy, increase cultural and artistic awareness and to provide opportunities for education, personal growth and enrichment, free of charge and without bias, to all those we serve. Ellicottville Memorial Library has served our community for more than half a century out of quiet, make-do corners, and always with the kind of dedication found in those who truly b

elieve in what they do. We operate under the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System, and currently boast over 4,000 cardholders, nearly 47,000 items in our collection, and a circulation of approximately 21,800 books and materials annually. We are a warehouse of educational resources and cultural activity and the birthplace of ideas. Our goal is to enhance the integrity of our wonderful community.

Happy National Library Week everyone!! The 2026 National Library Week theme is "Find Your Joy". Celebrated from April 19–25, 2026, this theme highlights how libraries foster joy, connection, and curiosity through books, programs, and community resources. The 2026 Honorary Chair is library advocate Mychal Threets. We have his children's book on display along with several fun activity sheets for kids. Stop in and check it out and all you gardeners, don't forget to stop in and check out the new seed library.🫛🍑🍅🫑

The library is now a seed library - and what a great way to use the beautiful card catalog🥰. We currently have herb seeds and vegetable seeds. Hoping to acquire some flower seeds in the next week or two. There is a limit of 5 packs per library visit, so stop in often because spring is here - despite the snow flakes yesterday.🤣

This week for story time we learned about the color red. So of course we talked about fire trucks. We even put together a large fire truck puzzle while Chase, our therapy dog, watched us. Join us next week for the color blue!🐟💧🚙

This past Wednesday morning we had a very special story time. Mike Morton arrived with his chickens and 3 day old baby chicks to present a "Green Eggs and Ham" event to about 45 interested patrons. We learned about chickens and eggs and got to meet Penny, his chicken that lays green eggs! Join us this coming Wednesday when Dr. Kate will be back to read a few stories, dance a few dances and make a craft. This week's theme is the color pink!

Today at story time our theme was "love" and we decided that we love animals, so our craft was a homemade bird feeder from used lunchmeat containers. They were a little complicated for small hands so the adults had to help - consequently I didn't take very many pictures, but these two were worth sharing ☺️. Next week our theme is Valentine's Day followed by Mike Morton's Green Eggs and Ham program on February 17th!

Sis will be missed by our library staff and board members as well as our entire community. We greatly appreciate all the time Sis donated to the library for close to 50 years! Whether she was reading stories for story time, fundraising for the new library, attending meetings, helping to clean the building - both inside and out, cooking hot dogs at the Pro Am or helping during Fall Festival, she was there with a smile on her face and ready and willing to work. To say that she was an active and dedicated board member is an understatement.
Sis's family have planned a celebration of life at the Ellicottville Memorial Library on Saturday, February 7th from 5 to 6 pm. We hope to see you there.
