We were honored to help kick off the 's 2026 "Lunch Date with History" series featuring small historic and cultural organizations in the Patapsco Valley. Our short presentation today offered just a glimpse into all our historic site has to offer.

Continue the conversation with us! Visit our website today to sign up for a tour or schedule a meeting, as we continue to seek to reconstruct the full history of our site.

A note from Director, Elisabeth Mallin:

As we prepare for the end of the year, I’m grateful for the things we’ve accomplished in the past year and are planning for the year to come. We’re opening our doors more and more for tours and programs, we launched our new website in the summer (www.carrolltonhall.org, check it out!), and hosted events in collaboration with our on- and off-site partners. All this while continually uncovering the stories of the people who breathed life into Carrollton Hall so many years ago.

Highlights from our summer include a new partnership with the Descendants of Jesuit Enslavement Historical and Genealogical Society and a visit from the Chesapeake Chapter of the Vernacular Architecture Forum. We’ll continue to connect with community organizations and create opportunities for shared learning and repair in the New Year. On the research front, we made great strides in understanding the original landscape around the house, including missing outbuildings and the construction of the retaining wall, thanks to an extensive ground penetrating radar study. While there is still much to learn, it’s incredible to have this new information about and from the very ground surrounding Carrollton Hall.

You're invited to visit our website to sign up for email updates from us: www.carrolltonhall.org

If you’d like to see the house decorated for the season, our next open house tour will be Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. Please sign up on our website. Whether you follow our work from near or far, I want to wish you a very peaceful holiday season.

Carrollton Hall was built in 1832 by Emily Caton McTavish and her husband John McTavish on a parcel of land deeded to Emily by her grandfather, Charles Carroll of Carrollton. As an historic site, Carrollton Hall shares the inclusive story of all those who have lived here: Native American tribes, multiple generations of enslaved people, and the families, overseers, and tenant farmers who resided on the property. The work at Carrollton Hall is to acknowledge its hard histories, recognize the harm they continue to have on our communities, and advocate for restorative justice for those who are impacted today.
