👉Ellettsville Rural Public Transit Service Ending December 31, 2026👈
Area 10 Rural Transit regretfully informs residents of Ellettsville that, beginning January 1, 2027, Rural Transit will not be able to provide urban-to-urban public transit service, which includes Ellettsville to Bloomington. This change comes due to federal and state Rural transit funding no longer being available for the urbanized area of Monroe County. Instead, these areas are served by federal and state Urban transit funding.
For many years, Area 10 has been honored to serve your community, and we understand
this service has been an important resource for riders traveling to work, medical
appointments, shopping, and essential daily activities. We know that losing this service will
create challenges for many, and we want our riders to know that this change is not due to
any issue with ridership, or lack of performance but solely because required funding
will no longer be provided to continue these operations.
We deeply value every individual who has relied on and supported Ellettsville’s public
transit service. Our drivers, staff, and partners are committed to ensuring a smooth
transition throughout the remainder of the year. We will work closely with riders to help
identify alternative transportation options where possible. Additional information will be
shared as the final service date approaches.
Area 10 remains grateful for the trust and partnership of the community. Thank you for
allowing us to serve you.

Edgewood Village Apartment tenants have shared overwhelmingly positive feedback about our maintenance team, Robert and Jere!
They do such a great job and we just can't help but brag about them.
Jere has been a valued part-time employee for some time, while Robert recently joined the team full-time. Tenants consistently describe them as trustworthy, polite, and hardworking.
Housing Manager Susan Chambers reports hearing compliments from at least seven different tenants in recent weeks, an exceptional amount of positive feedback in such a short time.

Susan has also received praise for Area 10 during her Housing Assistance and Information sessions. Community members frequently tell her that Area 10 is the only organization that took the time to answer their questions and provide meaningful resources for finding affordable housing. Many report that other agencies either failed to return calls or offered minimal information before directing them to search online on their own.

One recent example involved an 84-year-old woman who was told by another service agency to "just look online." When she explained that she did not know how, she was told she should learn, without being offered an appointment or alternative assistance.
Stories like this highlight a common theme in the feedback Susan receives: Area 10 stands out because staff take the time to listen, provide guidance, and help people understand the often complex process of finding income-based and age-restricted housing.
