STREET CLOSURES!

Several streets will be closed for the Rodeo Parade TODAY, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Please expect street closures to extend up to one block beyond the parade route. Review the map for affected streets and detour routes, especially if you are traveling into town from the east.

Plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and enjoy the parade. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

The 2026 Cop on Top event, held Thursday, August 27th, was a great success!

With the support of our first-responder friends and community partners, we celebrated and supported our local Special Olympics athletes while raising $6,110 at the event.

We want to thank the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, Central Washington University Police Department, Kittitas County Corrections, and the Washington State Patrol for participating alongside EPD in this special event.

A special shout-out to Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue for bringing the ladder truck to safely raise and lower the officers and deputies to and from the roof.

Thank you to Fred Meyer/Kroger for providing the event space and awarding a grant to purchase backpacks and school supplies for local children. This year, we were able to give away 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to school-aged children.

We also extend our sincere thanks to our other community partners-A-1 Petroleum, Generations of Ellensburg, Roots Physical Therapy, Twin Pines Drive In, and the Ellensburg Rodeo Top Hands-for donating money, products, and their time to this worthy event. Thank you to all our community members who took the time to see us and donate to this cause!

Several streets will be closed for the Rodeo Parade on Saturday, September 5, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

✅ Build an emergency kit with water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
✅ Make a family communication plan, including an out-of-area contact.
✅ Sign up for local emergency alerts and know how to receive official information.
✅ Consider the needs of children, older adults, pets, and neighbors.
✅ Review evacuation routes and keep your vehicle fueled and ready.

Preparedness helps our community respond more safely to emergencies—from severe weather and wildfires to power outages and other unexpected events.

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, our building has been illuminated in purple.

We join communities around the world in raising awareness, working to prevent overdose deaths, honoring those who have lost their lives without stigma, and recognizing the grief carried by the families, friends, and loved ones left behind.

Back when radios crackled, report writing meant a typewriter, and the watch rolled out with a little more polyester, here’s a look back at the crew keeping Ellensburg squared away in 1973.

This was the squad answering the call, working the beat, backing one another up, and serving the community long before digital records, body cameras, and mobile data terminals.

Join us today, Thursday, August 27, from 12:00–6:00 PM at the Fred Meyer roof area for a fun community event supporting our local Special Olympics athletes! 🏅

Local law-enforcement leaders will be “stranded” on the roof to raise awareness and collect donations for this great cause.

🎒 Back-to-School Backpacks
The first 125 kids to arrive will receive a backpack, lowered down from the roof!

🎁 Goodie Bags
Goodie bags will be lowered from the roof throughout the event for kids to enjoy.
