After a year and a half the geocache in the library has gone missing. It is clearly labeled explaining what it is and requesting that it not be removed from the library.
If someone HAS mistakenly taking this home we would greatly appreciate having it back.
Unfortunately it will be a while before it can be replaced if not.

Welcome back to school, Ellensburg!
Celebrate your first week back (or the last weekend before starting kindergarten) by stopping by the library and taking home a few books! There will be tons of children's picture books, chapter books, and YA laid out to look through and the library itself will be full of adult books.
Books will be out all day this Saturday and Sunday, September 11th and 12th!

The library address is 703 S. Douglas, it is near the hospital.

I just want to take a moment to address the decline of the library. The structure is going downhill and it is overflowing with books.
I always try to make sure the shelves are tidy and not too full. And I was supposed to have a new library built this Spring.
But my 16-year-old niece was diagnosed with cancer and I have been spending most of my time in Spokane taking care of her.
I noticed the other day that the library is in a bit of disarray. I will do my best to get it cleaned up next time I'm home.
Thank you for your patience!

This is a few days late, but February is Black History Month and we have books for all ages by black authors and featuring black characters and storylines.
We encourage you to take time this month to research lesser known Black History!

It was so exciting to get to visit LFL #43296 today! Dan and Trina are kind of famous in the little library world for "book bombing" all over the PNW and the whole country!

Things were just getting a little too wet on the bench at this point, plus we were running out of wrapped toys and books! There are a few wrapped books left and I put some extra small toys in bins inside the library as well :-)

With 10 days left until Christmas I am going to post a different version of "'Twas The Night Before Christmas" every evening. Our first "reading" is by on of my favorite Christmas decorations, that I have had since 2018! Below you can also see the original poem:

A Visit from St. Nicholas
By Clement Clarke Moore

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave a lustre of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the housetop the coursers they flew
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too—
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack.
His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

It's here, it's here, the most wonderful time of the year!
Stop by between now and Christmas to pick up wrapped books, toys, and treats!

12/12/2020

I had great plans for the Christmas books. They were going to be beautifully wrapped with ribbons and labeled by age and genre... And then our little elf here got SO excited to help, I couldn't say no.
Apologies in advance if your Grandpa ends up with a princess board book!
(Really, though, I will do my best to keep books somewhat organized and if you end up with something you really don't care for just stick it back in there and grab a different one.)
