Small business? Tight budget? Inclusive hiring is still possible!

Many small businesses worry that hiring someone with a developmental disability will be too expensive or complicated.

But with the right support, it doesn’t have to be!

• Use our local service providers; they provide job coaches to guide your new hire.

• Start small; hire for a specific task or project that matches your new employee’s unique strengths.

• Redistribute tasks; Free up time for your current team by assigning appropriate responsibilities to the new employee. This provides opportunities for your current team to grow and take on new tasks without overloading them.

Have questions about how you can make it work for your business?

Reach out to our local service providers. You can find information on them here: https://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/health/human-services/employers.aspx

Marinate smart to keep your summer meals safe and delicious!

✅ Always marinate food in the refrigerator – never on the counter or outdoors.
✅ Want to use marinade as a sauce? Set some aside first before it touches raw meat, poultry, or seafood.
🚫 Never reuse marinade that’s been in contact with raw food.

We are honored to spotlight Kelly Bacon, a member of the Logistics Section of Behind the Badge Foundation’s Line of Duty Death Response Team (LoDDRT). Kelly serves as the Local Emergency Response Coordinator for the Kittitas County Public Health Department and is an active member of her county’s Emergency Management Team. Through her work, she brings organization, coordination, and compassion to every response she supports.

Kelly’s connection to Behind the Badge Foundation began in 2019 following the tragic loss of Kittitas County Deputy Ryan Thompson. During that response, she was called to serve in the Logistics Section as part of the county’s Emergency Management Team. Experiencing firsthand the care, coordination, and strength the response team provided left a lasting impression on her. Inspired by that experience, Kelly chose to continue serving so she could help provide the same level of support to other agencies facing loss.

Within the LoDDRT, Kelly plays a key role in coordinating logistics behind the scenes, helping ensure each response is organized and carried out with care and precision so families and departments can focus fully on honoring their loved one and one another.

For Kelly, serving during Deputy Thompson’s memorial remains one of her most meaningful experiences with the team. The unity and resilience she witnessed among first responders, agencies, volunteers, and Behind the Badge Foundation reinforced the importance of standing together in times of grief and ensuring no one carries the burden alone.

Outside of the response team, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and being a proud mom to her daughter. She also enjoys camping, hiking, photography, singing, and playing recreational softball and volleyball.

Thank you, Kelly, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Whether you're riding a bike, skateboarding, horseback riding, or using an ATV/ORV, a properly fitted helmet makes a big difference. Helmets are one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious brain injury.

And remember, kids learn by watching you. Set an example and make helmet use a habit for everyone!

AQI (Air Quality Index) is a tool that lets the public know when air pollution levels may be harmful. When AQI levels rise, the air becomes more polluted and potentially dangerous to your health.
Poor air quality can affect everyone, but it’s especially risky for:
• Children and teens
• Older adults
• People with heart or lung conditions
• Anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors
