Schley County EMS is proud to host a Trauma Simulation Class on September 10th, 2026 at the Schley County Community Center in Ellaville. This class is sponsored by the Georgia Trauma Commission. This hands-on, scenario-based continuing education program brings high-fidelity trauma simulation directly to EMS providers across Georgia. Through realistic trauma scenarios and structured debriefing, participants will strengthen patient assessment, critical thinking, teamwork, and clinical decision-making. Each regional event is designed specifically for Georgia's EMS system.

We are grateful for the partnership with the Georgia Trauma Commission as they advocate for rural communities like Schley County. Providers who are interested in attending should scan the QR code at the bottom of the page to register or click on the link below. Spots are limited and are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

This morning, Verathon visited Schley County EMS for a demo on a new medical device. The subject of the demo was the Glidescope Go 2 Video Laryngoscope. This cutting edge technology allows Paramedics to use a video camera to place a breathing tube in a critically ill or injured patient. Previous devices require the providers to directly visualize the trachea and can lead to longer attempts at placing the breathing tube. According to studies, this new video laryngoscope made by Glidescope has a 98.3% first attempt success rate of breathing tube placement.

We are thankful for Verathon and representative Will Hastings for bringing this new equipment for a demo. We are always trying to further our technology presence to better serve our patients.

Schley County Fire and EMS had the opportunity to attend an Active Shooter and Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) tabletop discussion, walkthrough, and scenario based training on Monday. Attendees included members of the Ellaville Police Department, Middle Flint Regional E-911 Dispatch Center, Schley County Sheriff’s Office, Schley County Fire & EMS, Schley County EMA, and Schley County School Staff. School Resource Officer Jeff Edge and School Safety Coordinator Rodney Wall directed the training sessions.

The morning session involved the tabletop discussion of different incidents that may involve a multi-agency response across a variety of response areas such as schools, workplaces, and public areas of interest. This discussion brought multiple agencies together to enhance response protocols and procedures to better prepare all staff for any incidents that arise. Later in the morning, all attendees completed a walkthrough of the Middle/High school and Elementary school. This walkthrough helped further familiarize staff with access points, layout, and response protocols pertaining to each school.

The afternoon session brought together EMS and law enforcement into a simulated environment responding to an active shooter situation. The simulated environment brought the tabletop discussions to a live training session. These training sessions will continue so that our staff remains prepared to act at a moments notice.

We are extremely grateful to the Schley County Sheriff’s Office, the Ellaville Police Department, and the Schley County School System for affording us the opportunity to remain ready and prepared for the citizens that we serve.
