Call out #49 for Fair Hill Emergency Response Team in the middle of severe thunderstorm for transport of a down horse to Penn Vet New Bolton Center from Bird In Hand, PA

Horse had collapsed on a grassy area earlier, treated by a vet and still not able to get up.

Location was an hour away from our Fair Hill location due to traveling during a severe thunderstorm with wind, rain and tree limbs ever.

Horse was receiving fluids and sternal upon arrival. Head bumper was placed and horse was rolled onto rescue glide. Sedation was adminstered by the Dr Martin from Unionville Equine. Due to the size of the horse, a truck and thirty foot tow strap was utilized to move the large horse to the rear of the equine ambulance on the asphalt. Winch cable was attached to the glide and horse loaded for transport.

New Bolton staff unloaded after more sedation and moved to a stall with overhead lift by using slip sheets and leap frogging placement of the slip sheets on the concrete floor. Horse was rolled off glide in the stall.

Hope for a good recovery for a very nice horse.

The job is not complete until all equipment is cleaned and repacked. Thanks to team member Kimberly Gallaher for assisting with the cleanup!

We can now add search and rescue to our list of calls. Fair Hill Emergency Response Team callout #48 at 2pm. A group of riders that were not familiar with Fair Hill NRMA trails, had a rider fall after the horse tripped and run away.

They googled who to call and our number popped up.They sent a picture of their all trails map of the location. They said no injuries to report. We called the duty ranger to report the incident and proceeded to the North Appleton lot where they were parked. Riders were instructed to return to their trailer.

Upon meeting the rider, 911 was
called due to severve pain in their wrist and possible concussion. They were wearing a helmet.

Four team members conducted search by vehicle in the hay fields for two hours but did not locate the horse.

Park user locate the horse by South Appleton and notified ranger. Owners and horse were reunited at 630 pm.

Reminder to have the duty ranger number in your phone for assistance at Fair Hill 410 218 1698
