October is "spooky season" and to some, MATH can be a very scary subject...not Mrs. Zang at Bohemia Manor Middle & High School though! She's our latest APGFCU Teacher of the Month!

She's been a teacher for 23 years at Cecil County Public Schools. In addition to being an amazing teacher she is also a wonderful mom of 3 kids and a wife of another teacher, Mr. Zang. Teaching runs in the family!

She was nominated by one of her students, who says:
"Mrs. Zang is a deserving recipient of Teacher of the Month. She truly makes a difference in her student's academic success, making the sometimes difficult subject of math easier to learn by being patient and relatable. This year Mrs. Zang is located in a portable instead of a typical classroom, so she could use the money to make her space more aesthetic to learning or even purchase some necessary supplies to make the space her own. Did I mention she's been a teacher for twenty-three years!?! That alone is remarkable! Thank you for everything, Mrs. Zang!"

Nominate a deserving teacher for Teacher of the Month at WXCYFM.COM!

Good afternoon. This is the week when most math classes will give the first test.
Students: Be sure to get the official county study guide from your teacher and use this to prepare for the summative assessment.
Parents: Please ask your student if they have the study guide and if they are using it to prepare. Thanks for your continued support.

Their hard work will translate to outstanding academic experiences for their students. We are fortunate to have an outstanding group of reflective secondary math teachers.

Many students have reached out about how they can get a head start. OK, here's a tip for our new grade 7 students: make sure you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbers. For example:
(1) -4 + 9
(2) -4 - (-9)
(3) -4 x 9
(4) -4/-9

Our office welcomes our new 9th grade students to high school. We are confident that you will do well. If you want to get a head start, here are two things you could do before school starts:

(1) Recognize that you need to earn credits and that your grade becomes part of a grade point average (GPA) that is reported to future employers and colleges. Set of a goal of at least 85% for your classes and set a GPA higher than 3.0.
(2) Make sure you know how to solve linear equations, such as 8x + 6 = -15 and 3y + 5 = 2(y -3).

Reach out to our office at any time if we can be of assistance.

Welcome back students. As you get back in a school rhythm, we want to remind our 8th grade students taking the semester Algebra 1 that the state MCAP test is just two weeks away. Use the booklet from our office to prepare for this very important test. If you have any questions about the content, please reach out to your teacher or our office. We guarantee that if you do as we ask in the booklet, you will easily pass the state test.

Our office expresses deep gratitude to our teachers who worked extremely hard during the Professional Day yesterday.
