Sprout Scouts would like to give a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Penny and Mr. Bruce for welcoming our kiddos into their amazing garden!

Our Sprout Scouts had such a fun and educational time learning all about gardening and what it takes to grow healthy, happy plants! They learned about creating healthy soil to nourish our plants, how to set up and use a compost bin, the importance of watering and caring for plants, pollinators and helpful garden friends, and even got to explore all the amazing things growing in the garden!

And, of course, one of the best parts was getting to take some fresh, yummy veggies home to enjoy! 🥬🥕🍅

We are SO grateful to Mrs. Penny and Mr. Bruce for sharing their knowledge, time, garden, and love of growing with our Sprout Scouts. Experiences like this are so much more than a fun afternoon, they give our kids opportunities to learn, explore, get their hands dirty, and make memories outside the classroom.

It truly takes a community to help our kids grow, and we are so thankful to have people like Mrs. Penny and Mr. Bruce who are willing to open their hearts, homes, and gardens to our kiddos. Thank you for investing in the next generation and helping our Sprout Scouts grow—one seed, one lesson, and one little gardener at a time! 🌻🐝💚

🎥 Portrait of a Learner in Action!

We love seeing our Portrait of a Learner come to life across ECSD! This student newsroom is giving students the opportunity to communicate, collaborate, think creatively and take ownership of sharing their school’s stories.

Real-world learning. Student voice. Skills that extend far beyond the classroom. 👏

Stay Connected with the ECSD Board of Trustees

Starting with the Sept. 1 meeting, ECSD families will receive a Board Meeting Recap by email following regular Board meetings. Check your inbox for a quick look at Board actions, presentations, updates and other important district business.

Last week, the Board of Trustees traveled to Owyhee Combined, where trustees had the opportunity to connect with students and staff and tour progress on the new school construction.

A few highlights from the meeting:

Student Board Member Esmeralda Walker introduced herself to the Board. An Owyhee High School senior, Esmeralda is a multi-sport student-athlete and active FFA leader, serving as President of the Duck Valley FFA Chapter and Vice President of the Northern Zone of Nevada FFA.

The Owyhee High School Pow Wow Dance Troupe performed for the Board and shared more about the newly established school club and its work to celebrate and share cultural heritage.

New Owyhee Combined School Update: Director of Buildings and Sites Matthew Stahlke reported that construction remains on schedule and within budget, with completion anticipated in June 2027. Before the meeting, trustees toured the construction site to see the progress firsthand.
