Woman Arrested After Stabbing on Hot Springs Road

On September 20, 2026, at approximately 6:46 p.m., Elko Police Department officers were dispatched to 398 Hot Springs Road in Elko for a report of a stabbing. Dispatchers advised that the suspect had last been seen walking on West Main Street and provided a description.

Responding officers made contact with the victim at the scene, who reported being stabbed. While officers worked to secure the scene and gather more information, other officers searched the area based on the description provided and located a woman matching it on West Main Street. She was detained and interviewed there.

The investigation determined that the victim and the suspect had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect stabbed him with a knife. Witnesses told officers the dispute arose over the suspect repeatedly taking the victim's belongings from his tent. She then fled the area on foot before being located by officers on West Main Street.

Following the investigation, the woman, identified as Shaina Woodford, was arrested on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon and booked into the Elko County Jail.

As with any criminal case, an arrest is not a conviction. Woodford, like all individuals, is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Yesterday, the Elko Police Department’s Honor Guard joined public safety officers, other first responders, families, and community members from around the country to honor Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Officer Austin Abdelnabi.

As Officer Abdelnabi made his final journey, officers lined the route, the Honor Guard stood at attention, pipes and drums sounded, helicopters passed overhead, and an American flag flew above the procession. Every salute and every person who came to pay their respects carried the same message: his life, his service, and his sacrifice will always be remembered.

The Elko Police Department was honored to stand among those paying tribute and to represent our community during this difficult day.

We continue to keep Officer Abdelnabi’s family, friends, and the men and women of LVMPD in our thoughts.

The Elko Police Department congratulates Captain Rick Moore on his retirement. Over 26 years, Captain Moore served the citizens of Elko with honor in patrol, detectives, and command staff roles. He held the rank of sergeant in both the patrol and detective divisions, served on the SWAT team, and led as Elko Bomb Squad Commander. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Captain Moore was a steady mentor to younger officers. The Elko Police Department would not be where it is today without his selfless service. He will be greatly missed, and we wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors.

Apparently some of our local entrepreneurs aren't followers of our page. If they were they would know that we do not tolerate the sale of narcotics!

On August 1, 2026, detectives with the Elko Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) conducted an investigation into the sale of co***ne within the community. The investigation revealed that active narcotics sales were being conducted at an intersection in Spring Creek, Nevada.

Acting on this information, CSU detectives, alongside deputies from the Elko County Sheriff's Office (ECSO), responded to the location. During the investigation, K-9 Rudy conducted a sniff of Ruben
Osorio's truck which resulted in the seizure of co***ne and adderall. As a result of the investigation, Ruben Osorio was taken into custody and arrested for the sale of co***ne and possession of co***ne and Adderall.

Following the arrest, CSU detectives obtained a search warrant for Osorio's residence. CSU detectives and ECSO deputies served the warrant, resulting in the seizure of the following items:

56 fi****ms
320 grams of co***ne
135 grams of Adderall
246 grams of psilocybin mushrooms

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Elko Police Department extends its appreciation to the Elko County Sheriff's Office for their partnership and assistance in this operation.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Elko Police Department.

Ruben Osorio is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The men and women of the Elko Police Department mourn alongside the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department following the tragic line-of-duty death of Officer Austin Abdelnabi.

Every public safety officer understands that each shift begins with a commitment to serve others, despite the uncertainty of what the day or night may bring. Officer Abdelnabi answered that call with bravery and selflessness, giving his life while protecting the community he swore to serve. His service as both a United States Marine and a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer shows a life marked by duty, honor, and service to others.

It is shared by every officer, firefighter, dispatcher, paramedic, and public servant who understands the weight of the badge and the sacrifices made by those who wear it. Today, our hearts are with Officer Abdelnabi's family, his loved ones, and every member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as they face this unimaginable loss.
