Every summer, the Elko New Market Police Dept. receives increased calls regarding juveniles out past city curfew causing problems including vandalism, theft, and creating disturbances. We would like to remind all parents and guardians that the curfew (may not be present in any public place or establishment without parent, responsible adult, or guardian) for juveniles in Elko New Market is:
0-11 years of age: 9:00 PM-5:00 AM Sunday-Thursday and 10:00 PM-5:00 AM Friday-Saturday
12-14 years of age: 10:00 PM-5:00 AM Sunday-Thursday and 11:00 PM-5:00 AM Friday-Saturday
15-17 years of age: 11:00 PM-5:00 AM Sunday-Thursday and 12:00 AM-5:00 AM Friday-Saturday
There are some exceptions for juveniles out past curfew (traveling to and from employment, emergencies, etc.) see link to city ordinances regarding curfew https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/elkonewmarketmn/latest/elkonewmarket_mn/0-0-0-2897
Of note to all Parents and Guardians: It is unlawful for a parent or guardian of a juvenile knowingly, or through negligent supervision, to permit the juvenile to be in any public place or establishment within the city during the hours prohibited. Parents and guardians who knowingly allow juveniles to violate curfew may be cited. Parents and guardians are also ultimately responsible for any juveniles in their care that cause damage or commit crimes while in violation of curfew, as some have learned the hard way.
We ask that all parents and guardians in Elko New Market take the City Curfew Ordinance seriously and that you monitor your juveniles to ensure they are complying with the curfew.
We don’t want to have to wake you up to tell you to come and get your juvenile/s and that you will also be getting a bill or court notice. Have a great (and peaceful) summer!
