Is social drinking acceptable for Christians?
There those who would say that because Jesus turned water into wine it is ok to drink alcohol.
Study the text closely. He used purified vessels because he made new wine (grape juice), not fermented wine. Fermentation in the scriptures always speaks of sin (e.i. A little leven leveneth the whole lump). Jesus would not condemn fermented wine and then make it. This is why the text makes clear that he used purified vessels. Proverbs instructs us to not look on the drink that moves in the cup- Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
