At 21:24 hours May 17, 2026 911 received a call of a active shooter situation at ERCC on the five lane. Caller advised one patient was shot and nurses were guarding the door. Shooter was described as a tall slender male. Law enforcement units responded to the scene. Off duty Deputies,Troopers, and City police units were activated. EMS and Fire units staged off sight until law enforcement cleared the scene. Law enforcement officers entered the building and cleared the facility within a few minutes. Units went to the area and room where the call originated and determined there was no threat at 21:29. The call originated from a resident of the facility. Sheriff units from Upshur county and out of county State Police and City police units and all other Randolph County Sheriff Deputies were advised to stand down. Special thanks to all units who responded to this situation. There were 14 law enforcement units on scene within 3 or 4 minutes with multiple EMS and Fire units staged for mass casualty assignments if needed, There were many other units en-route to the scene. I would like to commend the Randolph 911 center for their great work during this critical call situation. Special thanks to Randolph County EMS, Elkins Fire Department, WV State Police, Elkins Police Department, WV Natural Resources Police, Upshur County Sheriffs Office and Randolph County Sheriffs office Deputies who responded or were responding to the scene. Thank God this was not a real active shooter situation. It’s a blessing to work with such professional first responders. Sheriff Rob Elbon
