🚦 Exciting News for Elkhart! 🚦

The City of Elkhart is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant in the amount of $7,309 to purchase a new solar-powered speed radar sign.

This sign is designed as a traffic-calming and driver awareness tool. It will display a driver's speed as they approach, encouraging motorists to slow down and be mindful of their speed. The sign is not a ticketing device and does not issue citations. Its purpose is simply to promote safer driving habits and help improve safety for residents, pedestrians, and visitors throughout our community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Polk County Board of Supervisors and Jill Altringer for Polk County Supervisor for their generous support and investment in the safety of our community. Their partnership helps make projects like this possible and demonstrates a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for Elkhart residents.

Thank you for supporting safer streets in Elkhart!

***Outdated Post***

In addition to the threat for flooding (more info on that in our previous post), there is a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather across much of Iowa tonight. Gusty winds and heavy rain are the prominent threats. We could still see some hail (around 1" in diameter) and a tornado or two with storms today.
