Clear Messages Create Greater Impact

Kate Berkey joined Rotary today to share how organizations can communicate more clearly to better connect with customers, donors, and the community. Drawing from the StoryBrand framework and more than a decade of nonprofit experience, Kate explained how confusing messaging can unintentionally push people away, while simple and compelling communication helps organizations grow their impact.

Rotarians walked away with practical tools to strengthen their marketing, sharpen their message, and better tell the story of the work they do.

Honoring Courage at the 10th Annual First Responders Luncheon

First responders from across our community gathered with Rotary for the 10th Annual First Responders Luncheon, sharing a meal and a moment of gratitude for the work they do each day to keep our communities safe. The luncheon was an opportunity to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and compassion behind the badges and uniforms. Speakers throughout the event highlighted the incredible service being carried out every day, and the room was filled with applause for those who continually put themselves on the line to make life better for others.

During the luncheon, Elkhart Rotary presented the Life Safety Award to Cody Sposato of the Elkhart Fire Department for his heroic actions after encountering a serious vehicle collision. His courage and quick response reflect the very best of public service, and we are proud to recognize his commitment to protecting others.

Service in Focus: Restoring Vision at Home and Beyond

We celebrated service in action as Steven Weld shared the impactful work of the Dunlap Lions Clubs International and their mission to Mexico, where volunteers distribute recycled eyeglasses to those in need. It was a powerful reminder of how a simple act can restore independence, opportunity, and dignity for individuals and families.

The spirit of service was also reflected within our own club, as Paul Harris Fellow Plus honors were awarded to Andy McCaskey, Andrew Harmon, and Rob LaRoy. Congratulations, and thank you for your continued commitment to Rotary and to making a difference both locally and around the world.

Sheriff Candidates Take the Floor: A Thoughtful Debate on Leadership and Community Safety

This week, our Rotary club hosted a candidate debate featuring Elkhart County Sheriff candidates Mike Culp and Brian Holloman, moderated by Judge Jim Rieckhoff. Special thanks to Tom Shoff for helping to coordinate. The discussion provided an opportunity for both candidates to share their perspectives on leadership, public safety, and the priorities they would bring to the role. With thoughtful questions and respectful dialogue, members gained a clearer understanding of each candidate’s experience, approach, and vision for serving the community.

The debate reflected Rotary’s commitment to fostering informed conversations and civic engagement. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates in a structured and balanced setting, helping equip voters with the information they need to make informed decisions in the upcoming election.
