🚨 When should you call 911?

Call 911 if:
• Someone is seriously hurt
• There is a fire
• A crime is happening now
• Someone’s life or safety is in danger

For non-emergencies, using your local non-emergency number helps keep 911 lines open for urgent situations. Our non-emergency number is 574-293-2175!

☎️ 911 Tip

If you accidentally dial 911, please don’t hang up.

Stay on the line and tell the dispatcher it was an accident. Hanging up may cause officers to be sent to check on your safety.

🚨 Question of the Day

Do the kids in your house know:
1️⃣ Your home address
2️⃣ How to call 911
3️⃣ When it’s appropriate to call?

Teaching kids these three things can save lives.

📍 911 Tip of the Day: Know Your Location

If you call 911, the first question a dispatcher will usually ask is:
“Where is your emergency?”

Even when calling from a cell phone, your exact location may not automatically appear on the dispatcher’s screen.

Be ready to provide:
• Street address
• Apartment or suite number
• Nearby streets or landmarks

🚑 Knowing your location can help responders reach you faster.

❓Do you know the exact address of your workplace or your child’s school without looking it up?

💬 Quick tip: Take a moment today to check the address where you are right now, you might be surprised how many people don’t know it!

📢Tornado Warning Test Alert📢
Tuesday, 3/10/26 at 10:15am

As part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week (March 8–14), the National Weather Service will issue a test Tornado Warning alert at approximately 10:15 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

This test alert will be distributed through most notification systems, including the Emergency Alert System (EAS). At the same time, the city’s outdoor weather siren will also be activated.

Important: The alert at 10:15 a.m. is only a test. Because severe weather is expected later that evening, any alerts issued after the test should be taken seriously and are not part of the drill.

Today at the Board of Safety meeting, some of our dispatchers were given an award for incidents that occured over this past year.

Just a reminder that before the lights and sirens, there is a voice. Because of steady guidance, critical thinking, and compassion in a moment of crisis, lives were saved. Congratulations to Olivia, Emily, Tricia, Ashley, Jess, and Abby on earning a Life Saving Award. This is a powerful reminder that dispatchers are the lifeline when seconds matter most. 🖤💛🖤

It was an amazing evening at the Home for Heroes Banquet celebrating those who dedicate their lives to serving others, including our incredible 911 Dispatchers.

While they may not wear a uniform on the street, their impact is just as powerful. We’re proud of our team and grateful to be part of a community that recognizes the importance of every role in public safety.

This year, Ashley received the hero award for doing an oustanding job on an event that occured earlier in the year.

Thank you to McKinnies Realty and Elkhart County Homes For Heroes for organizing this beautiful event at The Lerner Theatre. We are looking forward to next year!

On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have selflessly served in the United States Armed Forces. This day is a powerful reminder of the courage, dedication, and resilience shown by those who answered the call of duty, ready to protect our nation's ideals of democracy and freedom.

To every veteran—those who served in wartime and peacetime, those who returned home, and those who never did—we extend our deepest gratitude.

For our military personnel turned first responders, you swore an oath to defend the Constitution, serving our country with honor and sacrifice. When you left the military, you took another oath—to protect and serve your neighbors, often running into the danger that others are fleeing.
This dual commitment showcases an extraordinary level of selflessness. You have dedicated your lives to the safety and security of others, putting your own well-being on the line daily. You are the embodiment of patriotism in action, both globally and locally.

… ONE OF OUR OWN HAS GONE IRISH ☘️💛🏈

After serving our beautiful city for 19 years, Ashleigh is officially leaving our center to start a new chapter in her life. Ashleigh will be joining Notre Dame 911 as their director.

Over the years, Ashleigh has answered numerous calls with professionalism, calmness, and just the right amount of sarcasm to survive life behind the headset. From juggling multiple radio channels to finding the one working pen in dispatch, Ashleigh has truly done it all.

Now she is off to the land of Touchdowns and Touchtones, where the calls might sound different, but we know the dedication will be the same. Notre Dame is gaining an amazing dispatcher who can handle chaos, keep their cool, and still manage to make everyone laugh along the way.

While we’ll miss the quick wit, contagious laughter, and signature “I got this” energy, we’re so proud to see Ashleigh take this next step in their 911 journey. Your new team is lucky to have you and if they ever need proof of your greatness, we’ve got plenty of stories.

Congratulations, Ashleigh! Your dispatch family wishes you nothing but success, strong coffee, and smooth shifts at Notre Dame. 💛💚
