A note from the Mayor:

After last night’s comments, I want to take a moment today to clarify a few important points.

First, last night the City Council had the 1st of 3 readings on an ordinance to increase water and sewer rates. The council and I truly do sympathize with anyone who will be financially impacted by the $1.82 increase in utility bills.. Unfortunately, the reality is that the costs of operating a safe and reliable water and sewer system continue to rise every year. As stewards of this utility, we have a responsibility to ensure rates keep pace with those costs.

Second, utility funds are strictly restricted by law. Money collected for water and sewer services can only be used for those utility-related expenses. It cannot be redirected for other projects such as pickleball courts, or sidewalks. These funds are separate for a reason, and the city undergoes annual independent audits to ensure full compliance and transparency in how they are managed.

Finally, I want to say that serving this community is something I take seriously and care deeply about. My focus remains on improving quality of life in Elk Run Heights and working toward solutions that benefit residents. A Honda key fob was found in a yard on Gray St. and turned into the City Hall. There are three key chains attached to it. If you are missing your car fob, please call the City Hall and describe the other key chains.
