October is National Pedestrian month! We want to offer a few driving tips to keep everyone safe:

•Follow the speed limit, especially in areas with heavy foot traffic, around schools and in neighborhoods where children are present.

•Slow down at intersections. Be prepared to stop for people crossing or walking at marked and unmarked crosswalks.

•Use extra caution when driving at night or when driving conditions are less than ideal, such as rain or fog.

•Avoid distractions such as using your cell phone.

•Drive sober.

Our Officers and dispatchers were honored today by Cosumnes Fire at their CPR Survivor Event 💙

We often are first on scene for medical calls, and every second of early chest compressions can be the difference of recovery or the alternative. The team work of our dispatcher’s getting information quickly, our officers responding fast, and fire personnel providing further medical aid and transporting is a daily symphony. Thank you Cosumnes Fire Department for showing our people love, we are honored to work alongside your amazing staff.

Stolen Wheels Lead to 29-Mile Pursuit

While you were sleeping early Friday morning, officers were responding to a theft in east Elk Grove after two suspects were seen removing wheels from a vehicle around 2 a.m.

After stealing the wheels, the suspects loaded them into a van and fled the scene. Officers located the van and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit that continued for approximately 29 miles.

The pursuit came to an end after CHP assisted and deployed a spike strip, puncturing the van’s tires and disabling the vehicle.

Both suspects, 20-year-old Izack Alehandrez and 21-year-old Jose Parades Flores, were taken into custody. Officers recovered the stolen wheels inside the van.

Alehandrez and Flores were booked into the Main Jail on charges of grand theft, conspiracy, and evading.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Sometimes people need a little extra support during a difficult time. Our victim advocates help people navigate the process and connect with resources.

We are fortunate to have two victim advocates here at EGPD to help make sure people don’t have to face these moments alone.

Update: Both crossing arms were lowered and the warning lights were activated when the pedestrian walked onto the railroad tracks and was struck by the train.

Sadly, the 46-year-old man died at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release his identity.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Bond Road is closed in both directions just east of Elk Grove Florin Road due to a collision involving a train and a person.
The closure at the railroad tracks is expected to last at least one hour, possibly longer. Please plan accordingly and use alternate routes.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
