Four Women, One Legacy: A Salvation Army History of Impact. Throughout history, women in The Salvation Army have led with faith, courage, and a commitment to serving others—not for personal recognition, but to pave the way for future generations. This Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, we honor four women who left a lasting legacy:
✨
Eva Burrows – Known as the "People’s General," she revitalized The Salvation Army’s presence globally, strengthening its impact through servant leadership and community engagement.
✨
Evangeline Booth – A visionary leader and the first female General of The Salvation Army, she expanded its mission worldwide, proving that women could lead at the highest level.
✨
Clara Chase – A trailblazer in women’s ministry, she opened The Salvation Army Training College in Madras, India, during a time when Indian women were not allowed to work publicly, creating space for them to lead and serve.
✨
Mabel Broome – The first Black Salvation Army officer in the U.S., she broke racial barriers and championed inclusion, ensuring future generations of women of color had opportunities to lead and serve.
These women didn’t just break barriers—they built bridges for the next generation of women in ministry. Today, we continue their legacy by lifting others up and ensuring every woman has the opportunity to lead, serve, and make a difference.
