TSET Healthy Living Program - Beckham, Custer, Roger Mills & Wash*ta

TSET Healthy Living Program - Beckham, Custer, Roger Mills & Wash*ta The Western Oklahoma Wellness Initiative serves Beckham, Custer, Roger Mills & Wash*ta Counties. WOWI

TSET HLP (Healthy Living Program) focuses on improving the health of the area. The program covers Beckham, Custer, Roger Mills and Wash*ta Counties and operates out of Elk City Youth & Family Services as a group to coordinate a grant awarded to the City of Elk City from the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET). TSET was formed after Oklahoma (along with other states) settled with the Big Toba

cco Companies of the United States in a huge lawsuit. Oklahoma was the first state to create a trust fund to funnel the settlement payments into. The interest payments from that trust fund actually fund a number of grants including the five-year TSET Healthy Living program which the City of Elk City was awarded in 2015. TSET HLP works with local organizations, businesses, schools, and governments to make changes that will help make healthy choices easier to make. We encourage organizations to remove the barriers to healthy living that may exist within the organization.

Oklahoma is ranked the highest electronic cigarette usage in the nation, according to a Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) analysis by QuoteWizard, an insurance comparison platform. People have the misconception that va**ng is healthier than smoking, but it’s not true, according to Maria Guel-Rodriguez, Woodward County Health Department wellness coordinator with the To***co Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) Healthy Living Program. “While e-cigarettes have the potential to benefit some people and harm others, scientists still have a lot to learn about whether e-cigarettes are effective for quitting smoking,” the CDC says. “If you’ve never smoked or used other to***co products or e-cigarettes, don’t start.”
