Not only is this young lady beautiful on the outside, she has an amazing, beautiful heart as well! For her birthday, instead of asking for presents for herself, she asked for donations for Opie’s Place. 🥰 Her love for animals, compassion, and kind soul make this world a better place to live! Mckinley, we appreciate you so very much and we know you’re gonna do big things, sweet girl!! Michael & Jamie Leasor, thank you (and your village) for raising such an amazing girl!

This little stinker needs a squirrel house of her own. (The type that can be nailed to a tree.) If any of our talented supporters would be willing to build us one, we would be forever grateful!!

Is there really anything much cuter than a baby opossum giving himself a bath? 🥰

Car collisions are a leading cause of death for adult opossums. When an opossum is terrified, it enters an involuntary comatose state (“playing possum”) and freezes in place. This is great for dissuading predators, but evolution didn’t prepare the opossum for automobiles.

The good news is that, if you see a dead opossum, it might not be too late to save a life (or a whole pouch full of lives!) Simply put on a pair of gloves and check for a pouch on the animal’s lower abdomen. If you don’t have gloves on hand or are simply too squeamish to handle a dead opossum, give a wildlife rehabilitator a call and they can likely send a volunteer to help.

If you find joeys still attached to the mother’s ni**le, it’s very important not to remove the joey yourself or you could cause it serious injury. If the joeys have fur and open eyes, it may be safe for you to remove them from the pouch yourself. Please contact your local opossum rehabilitators for help with your next steps!

It's skunk breeding season, and bless their little striped hearts, skunks aren't very fast, nor do they see very well. And they lack few natural predators, and their only defense is to spray. But typically, they will give warning signs first, like stamping their feet and showing their behind as if to say "don't make me spray your ass!" Most animals heed these warnings and go about their way. So, basically, a skunk doesn't stand much chance when crossing the road: can't run fast, can't see well, and expects the car to back off! Little black and white optimists that are typically amicable creatures and are beneficial to our ecosystem. They eat insects and rodents. So, keep an extra eye out, give the little stinkers a "brake." Remember, they want the same things we do: to make it through another day and to take care of their families. ❤️😇💕😘

We’ve kept insulated totes, food, & water out all winter for the neighborhood critters. These were tonight’s visitors. 🥰
