Elizabethton Senior Center of Carter County

Elizabethton Senior Center of Carter County A Place to Thrive! Serving Seniors in the Carter County Community since 1968!

Since 1968, the Elizabethton Senior Center has stood as a beloved cornerstone of our community. As a non-profit organization, we have dedicated ourselves to serving the seniors of Elizabethton and the surrounding area. Our journey began with a small group of seniors gathering in a house on our current property, and in 1981, thanks to the City of Elizabethton, we moved into a purpose-built facility

. Ever since, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to provide a safe haven for seniors to socialize, access programs, and receive unparalleled support from the community. Over the years, our services and activities have flourished, expanding to meet the evolving needs and desires of our senior population. Our fundamental goal is to foster a secure and inclusive environment, ensuring that every senior in Elizabethton and the surrounding area has a place to call their own. At the Elizabethton Senior Center, we offer much more than a physical space; we cultivate a vibrant community where seniors can forge new friendships, engage in enriching programs, and find solace and encouragement as they navigate the journey of aging. With great pride, we stand as a trusted resource for seniors, providing not only a gathering place but also a wealth of programs and services. From invigorating fitness classes and enlightening educational workshops to creative art programs and delightful community outings, our offerings are thoughtfully designed to address the holistic well-being of our seniors. As a non-profit organization, our unwavering commitment to our seniors is made possible through the incredible support of our community, the dedication of our volunteers, and the generosity of our donors. Together, we create a nurturing space where our cherished seniors can find care, companionship, and a profound sense of belonging. The Elizabethton Senior Center represents more than just a building—it stands as a testament to the heart and soul of our community. It embodies our core values of compassion, respect, and an unwavering appreciation for the wisdom and contributions of our aging population. As we journey forward, let us continue building a brighter future where our seniors can truly thrive and experience the fulfillment they so richly deserve.

A special thank you to all of the organizations that partnered with our Seniors & Community Council to make our Elder Abuse Awareness Bingo a success!

We were fortunate to have support from Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc., Northeast TN, Life Care Center of Elizabethton, Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition, Visiting Angels, Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City, Cornerstone Caregiving, Gentiva Hospice, Elizabethton/Carter County Public Libraryand Lt. Carlock with the Carter County Sheriff's Department.

We hope today's event was not only fun and filled with fellowship, but also provided valuable information and resources to help older adults recognize, prevent, and report elder abuse. Working together, we can help keep our seniors safe, supported, and connected.

Thank you to the Elizabethton Star for taking the time to highlight this important issue affecting older adults in our community.

For more than 40 years, Carter County has partnered with the Elizabethton Senior Center to help ensure local seniors have access to programs, resources, meals, wellness opportunities, transportation coordination, and meaningful social connections. The proposed loss of county funding would have a significant impact on our ability to continue serving older adults at our current level.

We are grateful for the tremendous support we have received from seniors, families, volunteers, community partners, and residents who have taken the time to learn about this issue and make their voices heard. Our goal has always been to provide accurate information and advocate for the older adults who rely on these services every day.

We encourage everyone to read the article, stay informed, and continue participating respectfully in the public process.

❤️ Thank you for supporting Carter County seniors.

📢 County Funding for the Elizabethton Senior Center Is At Risk

For over 50 years, the Elizabethton Senior Center has provided programs, transportation, wellness activities, meals, resources, and social connection for older adults in our community.

The Carter County Budget Committee recently voted to move forward with removing outside agencies, including the Senior Center, as line items in the county budget. As the budget process continues, we encourage community members to respectfully share with their County Commissioners why senior services matter.

This is about more than a building—it is about the hundreds of older adults who rely on these services to remain active, connected, healthy, and independent.
