Elizabeth Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Olga Hugelmeyer, along with several members of the district’s central administration, warmly welcomed new team members to the EPS family for the 2026-2027 school year on September 1 at Dr. Antonia Pantoja School No. 27. The event provided an opportunity for newly hired staff members to connect with colleagues, learn about district initiatives, and gain valuable information to support a successful start to their careers.

Throughout the welcoming session, EPS team members from human resources, staff development, and technology departments helped provide information, guidance, and support. Representatives from the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), Equitable Advisors, Aflac, and other partner organizations were on hand to share important resources and benefits available to employees. New staff members had the chance to ask questions, gather information about professional support services, financial planning opportunities, insurance options, and other programs designed to enhance their well-being and professional growth.

The event reflected Elizabeth Public Schools’ commitment to fostering a positive, collaborative environment where team members can thrive while making a meaningful impact on the students and families they serve.

Shifting to a cell-phone-free school day is a big change for middle & high schoolers. Help your child feel confident before September 10 with a few simple steps at home! 🧵👇

1️⃣ Talk through anxiety: Acknowledge that feeling disconnected at first is normal. Reassure them that school staff, counselors, and administrators are there to support them.

2️⃣ Set expectations: Remind them devices will be checked in safely at arrival and returned at dismissal.

3️⃣ Emergency peace of mind: Make sure your student knows they can always use the Main Office phone if they need to reach you during the day!
