Elmora School No. 12 hosted its annual multicultural celebration on Friday, May 29th. The presentation began with students participating in a Living Museum, where they portrayed historical figures from around the world and shared their stories and legacies. Following the Living Museum, Ms. Molina’s first-grade bilingual students performed a Portuguese folklore dance, while Mrs. Gil’s second-grade bilingual students danced to a traditional Italian song.
Ms. Edreira-Fidalgo’s eighth-grade music students then performed a routine inspired by the Super Bowl performances of Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga, showcasing many Latin American countries as students proudly waved the flags of their native countries.
The grand finale featured students parading around the school dressed in their native attire while waving the American flag to Neil Diamond’s song, “Coming to America.” Mayor J. Christian Bollwage attended the jubilant event, showing his support for diversity and school community. Once the students entered the building, they continued their parade through the hallways to the music as teachers and peers cheered them on.
Special thanks to the ESL Teachers, Mrs. Gabriela DaSilva, Mrs. Stephanie Dias, and Mr. Najir Austen, for coordinating this beautiful school-wide celebration that embraced diversity, honored cultures from around the world, and fostered appreciation and respect for different traditions.
