October 31, 2023, there has been some recent posts that have been posted with misinformation. There has been no applicants presented for hire in front of Elizabeth Borough Council. The Borough has been in contact with me, the Chief about moving forward in regards to keeping the Elizabeth Borough Police Department. I need everyone to remain calm. If there is information about the department, I will be the one to inform the public. Thank you, Chief William H. Sombo

To the residents of Elizabeth Borough, you may have noticed the train speed is much faster. I have contacted CSX and inquired about the speeds. I have been advised that effective August 21st 2023, the speed through the Brough is 10 miles per hour. No matter which direction the train is going, once the engine enters the borough no matter which way they are traveling, the engine starts at the asphalt beginning of the Borough, the "Engine" will do 10 mph until it gets to the end of the asphalt. The engine will then speed up to 25 mph. I was advised that the Borough and the PD were notified of this change! I can assure you that we were not notified. I have been clocking the trains to see what the speeds have been. As of this time, the fastest speed was 23.8 mph. I have also requested a meeting with the CSX Safety Coordinator about this speed change. I will keep the residents up to date on this issue. If anyone has any questions on this matter, please feel free to contact me, Chief William H. Sombo

The Elizabeth Borough Police Department has investigated a Fraud/Scam where an elderly Elizabeth Borough resident was contacted by phone from an individual claiming to be from Comcast/Xfinity. The scam artist told the victim that Comcast/Xfinity was running a promotion where you can get a reduced rate at $79.99 for cable and internet. The victim was told to go get a Target Gift Card then call the scam artist back when he has the gift card. The victim did so, and is now out $400.00.
Please be advised, no utility company or legit business will request you to get gift cards in order to start or change any account. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY GIFT CARDS TO PAY ANYONE!
If you receive any phone calls like this, you need to hang up and you call the utility company back at the customer service phone number that is on your bill. Again, no utility company or legit business will require you to get gift cards!!!
If any resident of Elizabeth Borough or West Elizabeth Borough has received calls like this, please contact the Elizabeth Borough Police Department at 412-384-4041.
Thank you, Chief William H. Sombo
