On September 23rd and 24th, Legacy will conduct its annual Hearing and Vision Screening. Colorado State Statute C.R.S 22-1-116 requires testing the hearing and vision of all children in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades. In addition, any new Legacy students, as well as SPED students, will be tested. Each school must record all vision and hearing screening results in the child’s record. We will notify parents if a deficiency is detected. Should your child not pass their initial screening, the screening will be repeated within one month to ensure that the child did not have an illness or other factor that affected their initial results.
After two attempts, children who do not pass their vision or hearing exam will receive a letter stating their results and a recommendation for further testing.
As parents or guardians, YOU DO have the option to opt-out of testing based on religious or personal objections. If you prefer your child not to be tested, please email me by Friday, September 18th at [email protected] stating that you do not want your child to receive testing. This notification must be submitted via email or a letter turned in to the office.
Teachers or parents with concerns may also request testing even if the child does not fall within the age requirements listed in the Colorado State Statute if there are concerns that there might be hearing or vision difficulties. This also must be submitted via email at [email protected], or a letter turned into the office by September 18, 2026.
Please ensure that any glasses, contacts, or other needed supplies come to school with your child on Wednesday, September 23rd and Thursday, September 24th.
Additionally, thank you to the parents who signed up to help. Our volunteer positions are full for the screening.
Respectfully,
Jennifer Jobes, RN, BSN
