When a True Hero Retires: Honoring K9 Diego

The Elizabeth City Police Department announces the retirement of one of our most dedicated and loyal officers, K9 Diego.

While he may not have looked like the traditional police officer, K9 Diego's heart, drive, commitment to service, and unwavering loyalty to our community have been every bit as strong as those of any officer who has worn the badge.

At nine years old, K9 Diego has spent the last seven years faithfully serving and protecting the citizens of Elizabeth City. Throughout his distinguished career, Diego has assisted in countless operations, stood beside his fellow officers during challenging situations, and served as a trusted ambassador for the department within our community. His presence brought both comfort and protection to those he served.

K9 Diego's dedication, courage, and work ethic have left a lasting impact on the Elizabeth City Police Department and the community he proudly protected. Whether he was on duty helping keep our streets safe or interacting with residents at community events, Diego represented the very best of public service.

Now, the time has come for Diego to hang up his badge and begin a well-earned retirement. He will spend the next chapter of his life enjoying the comforts of home with his longest-assigned partner and handler, Officer M. Cartwright, who has shared an extraordinary bond with Diego throughout his career.

We are forever grateful for the service, protection, and companionship K9 Diego has provided over the years. His caring demeanor, fierce loyalty, and readiness to protect others exemplify the values we strive to uphold as a department.

As Diego begins this new chapter, we wish him many years filled with rest, happiness, adventure, and plenty of well-deserved treats. His legacy of service will not be forgotten, and he will always remain a valued member of the Elizabeth City Police Department family.

Thank you, K9 Diego, for seven years of faithful service and for being a true hero to our community.

Congratulations on your retirement. You have earned it.🚓🐕‍🦺

Today, the Elizabeth City Police Department proudly recognizes and celebrates Treyvon Sessoms as he completed his student internship with our agency, which began on March 10, 2026, and concluded on June 5, 2026.

Throughout his internship, Treyvon was an outstanding representative of Northeastern High School and our community. He assisted with front desk operations, interacted professionally with staff and visitors and consistently demonstrated a positive attitude.

Treyvon also had the opportunity to participate in several ride-alongs with our officers, gaining valuable exposure to daily law enforcement operations and learning firsthand about the dedication required to serve and protect our community.

It was truly a pleasure to have Treyvon as part of the Elizabeth City Police Department family. His eagerness to learn, professionalism and commitment have left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Treyvon on his graduation from Northeastern High School yesterday, June 6, 2026! This is a tremendous accomplishment and we are incredibly proud of all that he has achieved!

Chief Eddie Graham and the entire Elizabeth City Police Department wish Treyvon continued success in all his future endeavors. We have no doubt that he has a bright future ahead, and we look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes!

Please join us in congratulating Treyvon on both the successful completion of his internship and his recent graduation! 🧑‍🎓💙

We would also like to extend our sincere congratulations to all members of the Class of 2026. Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have brought you to this important milestone. As you celebrate this achievement and begin the next chapter of your journey, we wish each of you success, happiness and endless opportunities for the future. Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓💙
