🇨🇴 This month, Colombia feels a little closer to Northside.

For some of our international teachers from Colombia, the recent earthquake isn’t just something they saw on the news, it has impacted people and places they call home.

As they share their culture and real stories with our students, our Bears are learning about Colombia through a much more personal lens. Our Kindergarten students are exploring the country, its culture, and the ways life in Colombia is both similar to and different from life here in the United States.

And through it all, they’re learning an even bigger lesson: what it means to care about people beyond our own community.

Inspired by this learning, our Kindergarten team is leading Coins for Colombia!!!! ALL grade levels are invited to participate! 🇨🇴🪙❤️

Because sometimes the biggest lessons aren’t found in a textbook.

Lunch With Someone Grand is BACK! 💙

Last year’s Lunch With Someone Grand was such a big hit that we decided to run it back!

In honor of Grandparents Day, we are excited to once again welcome our grandparents to Northside for lunch and some quality time with our Bears! If a grandparent will be attending, please complete the registration form by Sept 7th:

🍽️ Lunch will be available for purchase à la carte, or guests may purchase a full meal for $5.50. Check out the flyer below for your child’s grade-level date and lunch time.

Our hydroponics systems are officially set up and ready to GROW! 🌿 Our larger system will feature a variety of fresh greens, while our smaller system will be home to different herbs. We’re especially excited to grow callaloo, requested by some of our international teachers, bringing a little taste of the world right into our school! 🌎💚

But this is about much more than growing vegetables. Our Bears will take the lead in caring for the systems, monitoring plant growth, learning about sustainable agriculture, and exploring how food and farming connect communities around the world.

🥬🛒 Our goal is to eventually have a student-run veggie stand. STAY TUNED!!!

The Elizabeth City Public Utilities Department’s Touch a Truck event was a great opportunity for our students to get a hands-on look at how things work in our community. The educational aspect was huge, giving students a better understanding of the important roles these departments play every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, including the Elizabeth City Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS. Your time, support, and dedication made this a memorable experience for our students!
