Our celebration of summer reading began with quite a flourish Wednesday at our beautiful Elgin Public Library when magician T.J. Regul dropped in for a visit! From card and rope tricks to schemes with a dollar bill and more, T.J.'s hilarious routine had the library bursting with boisterous laughter and excitement! The best news? Our summer reading exploits have only begun! Yes, the fun continues this Wednesday when Absolute Science brings their hair-raising, interactive antics to the library for a 3 p.m. performance--don't miss a minute! And, of course, keep reading in the meanwhile!

Wednesday marked another amazing Story Hour at our beautiful Elgin Public Library as we welcomed two very special guests from Fayette County Conservation: indeed, for this session, Jennifer was accompanied by Shelly the turtle! Those in attendance enjoyed a story, rhymed a rhyme, and constructed their very own turtle-shaped suncatcher, while also meeting Shelly and learning about turtles and their behaviors! Thanks, again, to Fayette County Conservation and to Jennifer, their magnificent environmental educator, for concluding this season's Story Hour program in such a memorable fashion! Special thanks, as well, to Alaina and Carol for leading Story Hour's revival, and, of course, to all those who attended throughout the season. Thank you all for bringing so much fun to our library home!

This Wednesday at our beautiful Elgin Public Library? Yes, it will be a wonderful time, indeed, as it all begins with Story Hour--and concludes with Summer Reading!

That's right: all readers pre-k through middle school are invited to participate, as we get our 2026 Summer Reading Program underway with registration, followed by a breath-taking, jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, head-scratching, how-did-he-do-that?!! 3 p.m. performance by magician T.J. Regul!

And that's just the first session!

Those who attended the most recent Story Hour at our beautiful Elgin Public Library left feeling great thanks to our special guests from the Elgin Ambulance service! After listening to a wonderful story, participants were given a tour of a real Elgin ambulance (siren and all!) before going back inside to receive some amazing gifts, including an activity book and their own stethoscope! Thanks, again, to our incredible Elgin Ambulance members for making time to visit and for bringing so much knowledge and fun with them! We hope everyone can join us next Wednesday for the season finale of Story Hour, when we'll welcome yet another special guest or two--don't shell this final session short!

What a special day it was Wednesday at our beautiful Elgin Public Library thanks to another amazing Story Hour, as we welcomed guests from the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department! Those who attended heard a story, received their very own fire hat and book, and, best of all, had the chance to speak with the firemen and see some firetrucks up close! We are especially grateful to the fire department and its members for making the session so memorable and fun--thanks for all you do for our community!
