ECSO PRESS RELEASE

Wednesday evening, July 15, 2026, Georgia State Patrol Troopers and Elbert County Investigators conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the parking lot of Dollar General in Bowman. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, a grocery bag which contained over 2 pounds of suspected Methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Jeremy Davis has been charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of firearm during the commission of certain crimes, Use of firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a crime, DUI, Speeding, Failure to maintain lane, and Driving with no license on person.
Also, Darrell Abercrombie has been charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a certain crimes, Possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and Drugs not in original container (misdemeanor).
Both men were transported to the Elbert County Detention Center.
Sheriff Callaway would like to thank the officers with both agencies for their commitment and determination to keep these dangerous drugs off our streets. Effective law enforcement requires solid teamwork between all agencies and this is just one example of the results of that type teamwork.

Detention Officer Daniel Myers recently completed a 80-hour state mandated training. He is now a certified jailer and ready to serve our community. Congratulations sir on your accomplishment.

In addition to our very own deputies, this class included representation from Elbert County Sheriff's Office Greene County Georgia Sheriff's Office Hart County Sheriff's Office-Georgia Madison County, Georgia, Sheriff's Office Morgan County GA Sheriff's Office and Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office.

It was a challenging 2 weeks, but they passed the program with flying colors!

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office Jail Division is currently accepting applications for a full-time and part-time Detention Officer positions.

Applicants must be able to:
Posses a high school diploma
Pass a background investigation
Pass a drivers history investigation
Pass a drug screening
Successfully complete the required 2-week Basic Jail Officer School

If hired, officers will also be required to successfully complete exposure to both the TASER and OC spray as part of their training.

Applications are available at the Elbert County Jail or the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office. Stop by today to pick one up.

Our final shift is Charlie shift. They are led by Lt. A. Bussey and together they bring more than 35 years of experience to the Elbert County Jail. This shift is dedicated to doing the job and never complains about their work load.
