We want to hear from you! Over the past several months, patrons have inquired about an additional timeslot for our weekly Children's Storytime program. Children's Storytime, hosted at 10:30 each Tuesday, encourages children 0-6 participate in fun music, craft, and read-aloud activities.

We want to make our children's programming accessible to as many families as possible. With this in mind, we have created a survey to gauge interest and determine what additional timeslot would work best for the most families. This additional timeslot would be a repeat of the 10:30 Tuesday story time program. If your family currently attends story time, or would be interested in doing so in the future, please take the time to fill out this brief survey. Your feedback helps us to better meet the needs of our community!

Good news! We are pleased to announce the digitization of historical newspaper titles from six counties, expanding the Georgia Historic Newspaper Project to represent 157 of Georgia’s 159 counties.

The new titles from Walker, Bacon, Lanier, Tattnall, Telfair, and Twiggs counties help fill critical gaps in the state’s historical record, giving researchers, genealogists, and the public access to local stories and archives.

The digitized collections are available via the Digital Library of Georgia and are freely accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

The Elbert County Public Library and the Concerned Men of Elbert County hosted a chess tournament July 25 and awarded four winners with a cash prize. Pictured are (L-R) third place finishers Tom Sigmon and Jesse Shook, first-place winner Kyle Sexton and runner-up finisher Edgar Nava.

Librarian Jan Burroughs said that chess player Jerry Sivey suggested that the library create a “Chess Challenge Ladder” where local chess players challenge the person ahead of them in the ladder to move up to attempt to reach the top for ultimate bragging rights around the community.

Participants would schedule a mutually agreeable time to meet at the library and play for ladder positioning. Anyone interested in having their name added to the ladder is encouraged to call the library at 706-283-5375. Participants must provide an email for communication between competitors. New PINES autorenew feature!
Keeping up with due dates for your library books just got easier!

How does it work? A few days before your book is due, you will receive an email notification letting you know whether the item is eligible and has been renewed. Please note that some items are not eligible for autorenew, such as when there are no additional renewals remaining, if there are pending holds on the item, or if there are existing account fines over $10. Even with autorenew, be sure to keep an eye on your due dates via the PINES app or gapines.org. Cardholders will still receive a courtesy notice two days before each due date for any items not eligible for auto-renew.
