Schriever Wall of Honor Spotlight: Jeffrey S. Smith🌟

We are proud to honor Jeffrey S. Smith as one of our 2026 inductees to Space Systems Command’s Schriever Wall of Honor for his contributions to national security space. During his 40+ year career, Smith was pivotal in revitalizing the Space Based Infrared System program. As vice president and SBIRS program manager at Lockheed Martin, he helped unite government and industry partners to stabilize the program, restore engineering discipline, and rebuild trust across the space enterprise.

Smith’s efforts contributed to the successful launches of SBIRS GEO-1 in 2011 and GEO-2 in 2013, advancing the Nation’s ability to detect, characterize and respond to missile threats worldwide. He later led military space at Lockheed Martin, overseeing critical national security space programs. His legacy underscores the power of industry-government collaboration in advancing U.S. space capabilities.

Our Schriever Wall of Honor is a memorial dedicated to Gen. Bernard A. Schriever and inscribed with the names of key military and civilian pioneers in U.S. space and ballistic missile development. Each year, we host an induction ceremony at LAAFB to commemorate a new class of leaders whose visionary achievements helped establish and maintain American superiority in space.

We look forward to honoring Smith alongside all 2026 Schriever Wall of Honor inductees on September 10.

Schriever Wall of Honor Spotlight: Maj. Gen. Robert A. “Rosie” Rosenberg, USAF (Ret.)

We are proud to honor Maj. Gen. Rosenberg as a 2026 inductee to our Schriever Wall of Honor. A 1957 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Rosenberg cross-commissioned into the Air Force at the dawn of the Space Age, a decision that sparked a lifetime of extraordinary contributions to our Nation’s defense and placed him at the forefront of a new era in American space.

Rosenberg’s early career helped shape U.S. satellite reconnaissance. He helped advance critical capabilities during the formative years of America’s space program. Decades later, Rosenberg’s influence endures through the capabilities his work helped bring to life. He helped secure initial presidential funding for GPS and shaped national space policy for the White House. Later, Rosenberg continued advancing GPS modernization, including efforts that laid the groundwork for GPS III and anti-jam M-Code.

The Schriever Wall of Honor is a memorial dedicated to Gen. Bernard A. Schriever inscribed with the names of key military and civilian pioneers in U.S. space and ballistic missile development. This episode’s conversation introduces industry and government partners to the Kronos commercial solutions opening and explains how conduct space operations.

We are proud to honor Mr. S. Scott Gustafson as a 2026 inductee to the Schriever Wall of Honor, celebrating his 40+ year legacy in National Security Space and his role in re-invigorating the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), a critical missile warning program known as our Nation’s “unblinking eye.”

His efforts, as part of a unified team, culminated in the successful launch and deployment of the first two SBIRS geosynchronous (GEO) satellites, GEO-1 in 2011 and GEO-2 in 2013. These launches delivered a state-of-the-art infrared capability that fundamentally reshaped global missile warning, providing unprecedented detection, tracking, and reporting capabilities to protect the U.S. and its allies. The impact of Mr. Gustafson's contributions continues to be felt today.

The SBIRS constellation has safeguarded the Nation for over 15 years, providing real-time missile warning and defense that has saved lives and strengthened deterrence.

Located in the Schriever Courtyard at Los Angeles Air Force Base, the Schriever Wall of Honor is a memorial dedicated to Gen. Bernard A. Schriever that commemorates key military and civilian pioneers in U.S. space and ballistic missile development. Each year, SSC hosts an induction ceremony to inscribe the names of select leaders whose visionary achievements helped establish and maintain American superiority in space.

🌟Schriever Wall of Honor Spotlight: Col. Ga***rd B. Green, USAF (Ret.)🌟

We are proud to honor Col. Green, USAF (Ret.) as a 2026 inductee to Space Systems Command’s Schriever Wall of Honor — a monument and celebration of visionary leadership and groundbreaking contributions to national security within space.

A pioneer in the creation, development and operation of GPS, Green’s innovative thinking and leadership helped shape GPS from its earliest architecture into the global utility relied on today.

Green developed key elements that made the system’s test program possible and a unique orbital approach that allowed test satellites to repeatedly pass over the same ground tracking station. He helped guide the transition from Space Shuttle to Delta II launches, helping achieve tri-service production approval for military user equipment and preparing the system to expand to a 24-satellite constellation.

We’ll honor Green and other 2026 inductees at our annual Schriever Wall of Honor ceremony on September 10 at the Los Angeles Air Force Base.
