More than 130 million girls and women have experienced female ge***al mutilation or cutting ... Nigeria made history by outlawing female ge***al mutilation. The ban falls under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015 that was passed in Senate on May 5 and recently enacted into law.

Thank you, President Kennedy for playing the Woman Card in 1962....hope everyone enjoys tonight's WHCA dinner.... President Obama never disappoints!

"Until 50 years ago, only men could attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner—even though the WHCA counted female members who paid equal dues. To protest the injustice, in March 1950 Dan Kimball, undersecretary of the U.S. Navy, hosted an event for women journalists who had been excluded from the annual bash. In 1962, at the urging of Helen Thomas, the first female White House correspondent, President Kennedy refused to attend until the ban on women was lifted. Thomas was named the first female president of the WHCA in 1975."

in 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” is published and becomes the best-selling book of the 19th century. Its depiction of the horrors of slavery is largely credited with fueling the abolitionist cause. According to legend, when Abraham Lincoln met Stowe in 1862, he greeted her by saying, "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war?"
