We are members of the University Democrats at the University of Texas at El Paso. According to legend, the idea of creating a chapter of a young/college Democrats actually began on Sept. 11, 2001 by Michael Apodaca with a meeting with a Political Science professor, who would later become an adviser to the organization, early that morning. During that semester, he rounded up three of his high schoo

l friends and on January of 2002, the first ever meeting of UTEP Young College Democrats took place. The meeting was quickly followed by their first project,a voter registration drive, later that month. During our tenure, we won two Organization of the Year awards, helped elect members into student government, local and state party leadership.Some of our members have become great professionals in their own individual careers.
