"Play ball!" El Paso icon Gaspar Enriquez’s “El Paso History of Baseball” is a cycle of works completed in 2014 through our Public Art Program for the downtown ballpark. The 9 panels feature historic and contemporary moments and figures from local baseball including: 1949 State Champions the Bowie Bears, and Syd Cohen, an El Paso High alum who went pro and played in both American and Mexican leagues.

A symbol of resiliency in the desert American southwest and rich in cultural associations throughout Mexico, the nopal or prickly pear cactus is a familiar site around El Paso.
