Free Open Swim Sundays are back! NOW including Open Gym! 🏊🏀

The Northwest Valley YMCA and the City of El Mirage have partnered together to offer FREE Open Swim & Gym access for El Mirage residents every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Memorial Day Weekend on Sunday, May 24, through September 6.

Cool off, stay active, and enjoy summer fun with the whole family! Enjoy open swim or indoor activities like basketball and pickleball on the newly refinished gym court surface. For more information, contact the Northwest Valley YMCA or visit their website.

✂️This week, City officials attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for several new improvements—congrats to the entire Y team! The upgrades below were advanced as part of our Council‑approved Parks & Recreation Department Master Plan. The YMCA is the managing partner of the City’s recreation facility on Cinnabar Ave., providing year-round programing and special rates for El Mirage residents.

🌟What’s New:
• Resurfaced gymnasium floor
• New vinyl flooring in the Teen Room
• Upgraded Group Fitness room flooring
• New pool shade structure

In Arizona, A.R.S. § 36-1681 requires residential pools to have a barrier at least 5 feet high that separates the pool from the home. But safety goes beyond compliance.

Start with best practices for pool barriers:
• Self-closing, self-latching gates that open away from the pool
• No gaps a child could squeeze through or footholds to climb
• Never prop the gate open, even for a few minutes
• Check latches and hinges regularly for wear

ABCs aren’t just for singing, they’re for safety, too. A - Adult supervision, B - Barriers, C - CPR training, and Swim lessons.
