❗SMOKE ADVISORY - Imperial, Brawley, Holtville❗

Imperial County APCD has been made aware of an apparent incidental burn of hay bales and one agricultural field just north of W. Harris Road, Imperial, CA.

The local fire agencies are currently responding to the fire, and the Imperial County APCD is monitoring the smoke impacts to the community.

❗Reminder: When you are near a smoke source, please limit your exposure and outdoor activity, as exposure to high particle pollution levels can cause serious health problems, including asthma attacks heart and lung disease symptoms, and increased risk of respiratory infections.

‼️ Air Quality Alert in Imperial County for August 28-29, 2026 💨

🔺Out of an abundance of caution, the Imperial County APCD has issued an air quality alert due to potential harmful levels of particle pollution from windblown dust. The alert is in effect from 3:30 p.m. Friday August 28, 2026 through 3:30 p.m. Saturday August 29, 2026. Thunderstorm activity over the Baja California may drift into the Imperial Valley over the next 24 hours and may bring gusty winds and reduced visibility due to blowing dust.

🔺To protect your health, check air quality levels and act as needed: When Air Quality Index (AQI) levels are Orange (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups), sensitive groups should limit extended or intense outdoor activity. When AQI is Red (Unhealthy), everyone may experience health impacts. Sensitive groups should avoid extended time outdoors. When AQI is Purple (Very Unhealthy), sensitive groups should avoid all outdoor physical activity. Everyone else should avoid extended or intense outdoor activity. When AQI is Maroon (Hazardous), everyone should avoid all outdoor physical activity.

Imperial County, CA - The NOAA and Gobierno de Mexico radar systems are both currently showing a complex of rain showers with embedded lightning slowing moving west into the Imperial County. The consensus among weather forecasters is that the complex is expected to gradually dissipate.

Imperial County Air Pollution Control District (ICAPCD) would like to remind everyone that the AB 617 North-End Community Steering Committee (CSC) Meeting for the Brawley-Westmorland-Calipatria Corridor on Monday, August 17, 2026 was voted to be a Dark Day and will be canceled. The regular scheduled meetings will resume on Monday, September 21, 2026.

RFP for AB 617 Projects:
The Imperial County Air Pollution Control District (ICAPCD) is accepting proposals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, exposure to particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen emissions, through the implementation of Urban Greening and Vegetative Barrier Projects within the Assembly Bill (AB) 617 Community of Brawley-Westmorland-Calipatria. Proposals must be in accordance with the ICAPCD Project Plan for Urban Greening Program. Only projects designed for the creation and/or expansion of new green spaces, such as trees, grass planting, or green barrier projects will be considered with its respective irrigation system. Applicants must commit to the following criteria in order to be considered for funding:
• Must be the owner or have authority to construct and maintain the project
• Must maintain the project for 10 years
• Must make the project available for inspection if requested by ICAPCD and/or CARB staff during the entire contract period, 10 years
• Responsible for contacting Imperial County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office before obtaining any plant material originating from outside Imperial County
• Responsible for ensuring trees are purchased, planted, and maintained to the specifications provided in Appendix H of CAL FIRE’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant Guidelines
• Must use the CARB Urban Greening Benefits Calculator Tool to determine GHG emissions reduced
• Property taxes must be current
• Applicant must have financial capacity to complete, operate, and maintain the project
• Any funds required from other sources must reasonably be expected to be available in the timeframe needed to carry out the project

Routine maintenance & rehabilitation projects are not eligible for funding, and applicants may not claim emission reduction credits from the project during contract period.
