The City of El Centro will provide sand and sandbags for residents beginning Thursday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. as a precaution ahead of the forecasted storm and potential heavy rainfall expected Thursday and Friday. 🌧️

If you have experienced flooding before, this is an opportunity to prepare. For properties that have not previously flooded due to rain, the likelihood of flooding remains low, and sandbags may not be necessary.

Sand (self-fill) locations:
• Valley Center Point Plaza parking lot (corner of Scott Ave. and Imperial Ave., next to the El Centro Public Library)
• S. Fifth St. and W. Olive Ave. parking lot (near the Old Post Office Pavilion)
• Stark Field parking lot (830 S. Fourth St.)

Residents are advised that no staff assistance or shovels will be provided at the sand locations. Please bring your own shovels and fill sandbags as needed.

Empty sandbags available for pickup:
• Fire Station No. 1 – 775 W. State St.
• Fire Station No. 2 – 900 S. Dogwood Rd.
• Fire Station No. 3 – 1910 N. Waterman Ave.

Limit of 10 bags per address with proof of residency required.

The City encourages residents to remain alert and prepared for possible flooding in low-lying areas and to monitor official updates.

La Ciudad de El Centro proporcionará arena y costales para los residentes a partir del jueves 9 de octubre a las 9 a.m. como medida de precaución ante la tormenta pronosticada y las posibles lluvias intensas esperadas para el jueves y viernes. 🌧️

The El Centro Police Department’s business phone lines have been fully restored. Both emergency 911 and non-emergency services are now operating normally.

We are grateful to our Fire, Police, and Public Works crews for their quick response and dedication during yesterday’s storm. Their efforts kept our community safe while addressing flooding, downed trees, roof damage, and temporary power outages.

No major injuries have been reported. Most flooded areas have cleared, and City crews continue working today on smaller debris and fallen trees.

The Public Works Department is currently experiencing a phone outage. Until service is restored, please report Public Works issues, including downed trees or road debris, to El Centro Police Dispatch at 760-352-2111. Only call 911 for emergencies. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

We also want to thank the Imperial Irrigation District crews for working through the night and continuing today to restore power to our residents.

Our thoughts and safe wishes are with other communities impacted more severely by the storms, including the City of Calexico.
