For the many visitors to this Little Free Library or the one for children's books on the other side of the sidewalk who have stopped to talk with my husband, Alex, I am sad to report that he passed away on Wednesday, August 6. He built and erected the first of our two Little Free Libraries as my birthday present because he knew how much I like these neighborhood book boxes. And he built and erected the second one because someone asked him if we had any children's books. And over the past few months, he improved the roofs of both libraries because he saw the old ones were becoming weatherworn and he didn't want me to have to worry about the repairs. His life on the corner of Murray Drive and La Vista was brightened each day by the view from our corner window and all the people he saw walk, ride, or drive by. His celebration of life will be on Saturday, August 23, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. His obituary can be found here: https://www.featheringillmortuary.com/obituaries/alexander-yeaman
He loved putting books into the hands of any who were interested, especially children. I hope you will all think of him the next time you stop by to see what new books are in the libraries.

We recently received a donation of books with lots of books about sports, titles like ESPN, Sports Illustrated Great Football Writing, Game Day Southern California Football, The Lincoln Library of Sports Champions, and Not Till the Fat Lady Sings: The Most Dramatic Sports Finishes of All Time. If you'd like them, message me or reply to this post. I expect these books will appeal to a limited and specialized audience.

I'm thrilled to have received several bags of books through the Buy Nothing El Cajon (South) Facebook group. If you haven't joined a BuyNothing group, you are missing out on a great opportunity to share what you no longer need with others who have a need as well as getting to know others in the neighborhood.

But back to the bags of books: I put out a bunch of Middle Grade and Young Adult books in the Children's Little Free Library to enhance the collection of books for younger readers there. And the adult LFL now has a bunch of romance books. I rarely read them, but I know how popular they are so I'm excited to have some to offer to others. They are small, quick reads, and I have more in my garage for when those on offer get snapped up.

I’ve just added the first the chapter books in the following series: The Zack Fileds, the Jigsaw Jones Mysteries, and The Secrets of Droon. There are at least 25 books in these series. As I see them moving out of the library, I’ll add more.

A BuyNothing Facebook group member gave me this box of children's books. It contains several series. Included are a series written by Gary Paulsen, a Star Wars series, Jigsaw Jones mysteries, The Secrets of Droon series, The Zack Files series, and Matt Christopher sports series for kids. If you know any of these and would like an opportunity to get multiple books in the same series, comment below to let me know. I'll hold off adding these to our Children's library until I know whether there is specific interest in the series.

I just swapped out all the books in the adult library. What's new out there is a mixture of fiction and nonfiction. Most of the books are hardbacks so there's some weight in the library now.

If you are looking for a particular genre, add a comment below and I'll look in our very large store of adult books to see what I can find.

I just picked up this box of children’s books from a BuyNothing El Cajon South member for our children’s Little Free Library. Several other BuyNothing members also offered to help restock thr Children’s library. My thanks to all of them as they help us keep the children’s library well stocked. We have some very voracious children readers out in the neighborhood

Don't forget to sign up to take part in this summer's Little Free Library Scavenger Hunt in celebration of - August 7, 2021! Three pink flamingos mark the spot on LFL #33593. Flamingos don't count if you are counting all the gnomes in the hunt, but be sure to keep in mind that FLAMINGOS DO COUNT in every other way.
Scroll to the bottom of the page unplugcollaborative.org/on-the-hunt-for-gnomes on August 6 when we will unveil the address of the first stop for the route nearest you. Go to that stop on August 7 beginning at 10 am to pick up your map and instructions. Bring along a book to trade if you'd like! This is a perfect opportunity to unplug with your family and have some fun!
