Elevate the Narrative: Africa in the K–5 Classroom

ACCEA & Atlantic County Collaborative for Educational Equity (ACEdEquity)

Inclusive Curriculum Symposium

Join us for a vibrant, four-day professional journey as we transform the K–5 experience through a rich, inclusive lens. This symposium empowers educators to move beyond “the single story” of Africa, replacing it with a tapestry of resilience, royalty, and radiance.

The Symposium Experience

Over four immersive days, we will bridge the gap between history and the modern classroom. Guided by experts—including NJEA Associate Director Amanda Adams—you will explore:

Resilience & Healing: Connect trauma-informed SEL strategies (ACEs) to powerful narratives of African perseverance, helping students find strength in their own identities.
Legacy & Leadership: Bring the history of African Kings and Queens to life through engaging biographies, map skills, and creative arts that celebrate ancient excellence.
Global Diversity: Challenge stereotypes by exploring the vast geography, 54 nations, and vibrant traditions that make the continent a diverse global powerhouse.
Cultural Affirmation: Link heritage to modern traditions through the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa, fostering community through storytelling, music, and collaborative play.
Empower Your Teaching

Walk away with classroom-ready mentor texts, hands-on projects (from leadership posters to “travel” brochures), and a renewed framework rooted in Identity, Intellect, and Joy.

“Curriculum is both a window and a mirror. Let’s build a classroom where every child sees a reflection of greatness.”

End-of-the-Year Reset Experience!
Konscious Classroom LIVE!

Konscious Classroom LIVE: End-of-Year Reset Experience is an ACCESS Model–endorsed virtual series designed to address the emotional and mental health needs of students during a time of year when stress, transition, and dysregulation can often be heightened. Through intentional practices such as movement, guided breathing, and reflection, this experience helps students build self-regulation, resilience, and connection—essential components of fostering healthy and supportive learning environments.

This work is especially meaningful in our urban school communities, where students and educators often navigate multiple layers of stress. Creating structured opportunities for students to reset and regulate supports their well-being and contributes to calmer, more connected classroom environments for educators.

Public Education is an issue that we should be able to come across the aisle and agree to do what is best for the youth in our communities. We have worked with our Representatives for 5 years to do just that. We look forward to continuing our relationships to strengthen our schools.

Thank you for joining us!
