🚒 SMOKE ALARM BLITZ THIS WEEK! 🚒

Effingham firefighters will be visiting homes tonight, Monday, September 14, and during the mornings of Tuesday and Wednesday, September 15–16, as part of our smoke alarm blitz.

📍 We’ll be in the area between Maple Street and Henrietta Street, from W. Fayette Avenue north to W. St. Anthony Avenue.

If you live in this area, you may see firefighters walking through your neighborhood and knocking on doors to help make sure homes have working smoke alarms.

☎️ Need a smoke alarm? You don’t have to wait for a blitz! City of Effingham residents can always call our station at 217-342-2555 to request a free smoke alarm. Our firefighters must complete the installation, which is also free.

Working smoke alarms save lives. Thank you for helping us keep Effingham safe!

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Illinois Effingham Women of Today is a philanthropic organization dedicated to service to local and international communities; community improvement; and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The National Day of Service (NDS) is a day on which GFWC clubs come together in service. As part of the NDS, the Effingham Women of Today is partnering with the Angeled Kids Foster Closet as its local service project. Through this partnership, they are helping to support children and families in our community who are impacted by the foster care system.

Effingham Mayor Mike Schutzbach has officially proclaimed September 17–23, 2026, as Constitution Week.
Mayor Schutzbach joined Ann Crooker St. Clair Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) representatives Ruth Ann Hoffmeister, Paulena Romero, Susan Oliver, and Candace Goodrich to encourage all Effingham residents to reflect on our nation's founding principles and vigilantly safeguard the freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
