SUSPECT IN DEADLY ASSAULT TURNS HIMSELF IN

The suspect in the September 9, 2026 assault which led to the death of a Timmonsville man turned himself in to FCSO Investigators on September 12, 2026. Larondre Tyshawn Shaw is charged with the murder of 43-year-old Roosevelt Thomas, Jr. at the Hot Spot Convenience Store in Timmonsville, SC. Investigators allege that Shaw struck Thomas in the head causing a loss of consciousness and an extreme hemorrhage of the brain, resulting in death.

On September 9. 2026 at approximately 1:18 am, FCSO Deputies responded to the Hot Spot Convenience Store located on Smith Street in Timmonsville, SC regarding an assault call. When Deputies arrived, Thomas was found outside the front door of the store and was unresponsive. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Shaw is being held at the Florence County Detention Center without bond.

T.A.C.T. TO HOST ANNUAL BASKETBALL TOURNEMENT

Teens and Cops Together (T.A.C.T.), a community outreach by deputies with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and the Florence PRT, will host a Basketball Tournament on Saturday, September 12, 2026 beginning at 11:00 am at the Pearl Moore Gym located at 500 Barnes Street, Florence, SC. The T.A.C.T. team, consisting of local law enforcement officers and youth will compete against the Barnes Street. Halftime and musical entertainment will be provided by DJ Boogie with performance by WF Cheer Team.

Sponsors for the event are South State Bank, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Food Lion, Shawn’s Concrete Finishing, K’Jay Catering, Nine II, Sports & Wellness, TACT Mentor Program, Kuntry’s Soulfood & BBQ and Soul Train Express. Admission is free.

“This event gets better each year and is another great example of our deputies’ reaching out to the communities we serve,” Sheriff TJ Joye stated. “Working together, we can make a difference in the lives of our young people. FCSO and FCCO INVESTIGATE DEADLY ASSAULT

On September 9. 2026 at approximately 1:18 am, FCSO Deputies responded to the Hot Spot Convenience Store located on Smith Street in Timmonsville, SC regarding an assault call. When Deputies arrived, the victim was found outside the front door of the store and was unresponsive. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died. The name of the victim will be released by the Florence County Coroner at the appropriate time.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in the assault. As additional information is available this release will be supplemented.

We would like to take a moment to recognize and commend Ms. Danielle Poston, one of our dedicated employees at the Florence County Animal Facility.

Last month, a woman participated in our TNR (Trap, Neuter & Release) program. Through this program, participants trap their cats, when necessary, and bring them to the Florence County Animal Facility. We then arrange for the cats to be spayed or neutered before returning them to their owners for release back into their home area.

During this event, arrangements were made for the cats to be picked up the following day at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, Ms. Danielle received a text message from the participant explaining that she had misunderstood the pickup time and had arrived at the shelter earlier than scheduled. Unfortunately, there were no staff members available at that time. She explained that this was the only transportation she had available and that, because of an injured foot, she was having difficulty getting around.

Ms. Danielle assured her that this would not be a problem. She simply asked the woman to give her some time to complete her daily responsibilities at the shelter, and she would personally deliver the cats to her later that afternoon on her way home.

When Ms. Danielle completed her duties, she followed through on her promise and delivered the cats to the woman. Our customer was extremely happy and grateful that Ms. Danielle was willing to help. She explained that she was unsure how she was going to get the cats home or how she would be able to transport them to their release location.

Ms. Danielle reassured her that she understood her situation and was there to help.
The woman was extremely appreciative of both the TNR program and the assistance she received. As a gesture of gratitude, she gave Ms. Danielle flowers and a thank-you card. While this gesture was certainly not necessary, it was very much appreciated.

Our client expressed how grateful she was for Ms. Danielle’s support and shared how much she appreciates the TNR program and the work being done by the Florence County Animal Facility to serve our community.

This is another excellent example of the exceptional employees we have throughout Florence County and how they continue to go above and beyond to provide outstanding service to our citizens. Ms. Danielle truly demonstrates the values reflected in Florence County’s Mission Statement.

FCSO OFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve a search warrant earlier today on Lake City Highway near Johnsonville, SC, at which time the suspect fled the scene and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit into nearby Williamsburg County. The suspect then attempted to flee on foot into a wooded area off Muddy Creek Road where the suspect presented a fi***rm and fired at deputies who were forced to discharge their weapons. The suspect has been transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. No FCSO deputies were injured in this incident.

Sheriff TJ Joye has requested that the incident be investigated by South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED). FCSO is cooperating fully with the investigation.

FCSO MAKES FORTH ARREST IN BURGLARY/GRAND LARCENY CASE

Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office have arrested an additional suspect in a recent theft of property belonging to Duke Energy on Mechanicsville Highway in Florence, SC. According to Investigators, between the dates of August 10, 2026 and August 25, 2026, Richard Earl Jackson, Charles Leroy McGee and Brian Alexander Player is alleged to have entered the property of Duke Energy and removed approximately $80,000.00 of equipment and material including a boat, reels of copper wire, batteries and other items. The stolen property was located on North Tobin Drive in Florence during the ex*****on of a search warrant.

SUBJECT: Cody Douglas Harrington, age 29, of 1027 N. Ham Road, Timmonsville, SC was arrested by FCSO Investigators on September 8, 2026 and charged with Burglary (3rd degree)(S.C. FCSO Makes Arrest in Weekend Murder

FCSO Investigators have made an arrest in the August 28, 2026 shooting death at the Suburban Motel on West Lucas Street in Florence, SC. Tyrik Antwan De’Andre Hicks, age 22 was taken into custody at approximately 5:00 pm today (August 31, 2026) in Florence. Investigators allege that Hicks shot and killed 15 year old Manblessin Brightwell. Brightwell was identified as the victim by Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken earlier today. The investigation into this incident is ongoing .

Hicks will be held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
