100+ Women Who Care is a group of philanthropic women who share a common desire to give back

to their local community. The first $100 supports an endowment fund in the 100+ Women Who Care Effingham County - Community Foundation that will be used to serve future needs. The remaining $300 is used to support the 3 nonprofits selected by members throughout the year ($100 per person each meeting). For example, if we have 100 members, each quarter the group will award a $10,000 grant to a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Our "Dive into Decades" meeting is officially one for the history books!

From flower power to the twenties, our members dressed through time for an unforgettable evening of friendship, fun, and giving back.

A huge thank you to Gabby Goat American Pub & Grill, who was the hostess with the most-est, opening up the 'Goat Garage' and treating us to delicious refreshments throughout the night. Thanks also to Siemer Milling Company for providing drink tickets and keeping spirits high across every decade!

Courtney took us on a trip down memory lane with a recap of our year, highlighting our recent recipients, El Shaddai (Endowment) and Hope 4 Horses Rescue & Sanctuary (April), and sharing the exciting news that our membership has grown to 100 women strong! We continue to grow our impact in the community, and we can't wait to see what the future holds.

Donna Columbus from Hope 4 Horses Rescue & Sanctuary provided an update on Romeo, the horse who underwent surgery. This was partially covered by the funds. We're happy to report that Romeo has healed and is now ready for adoption. Hope 4 Horses is also expanding its work through horse therapy programs and partnerships serving children with autism.

Our nonprofit presentations took us through the past, present, and future of our community:

🎭 The Heart of Effingham Theater, presented by Carrie Rodman, shared plans to restore this historic landmark and bring it back to life as a venue for weddings, musicals, movies, meetings, concerts, and more.

📦 The Blessing Box, (Presbyterian Church) presented by Marjorie Lancaster, highlighted its mission of providing free non-perishable food and essentials to anyone in need through its neighborhood mini-pantry.

🎶Poss Music Works, presented by Taylor Peterson, shared how they bring original music, festivals, youth programs, and community events to our region, including the upcoming Moccasin Creek Festival.

While the votes were being tallied, it was time for some winners of our own!
✨ Bring-a-Guest Winner: Mary Jo Tucker, who received a gift card to The Sapphire Luxury Spa.
☮️ Best Dressed: Lana Henderson, who was groovy in full Flower Power fashion! She took home a pair of sunglasses and a gift card to Ten Brooke LeAnne.

After all the votes were counted, The Heart of Effingham earned the most votes and will receive our quarterly donation. We look forward to hearing their progress report at our next meeting!

Our final stop on this year's journey will be "Nowhere to Wear" on October 1 at the Thelma Keller Convention Center. Whether you're dressy, dazzling, or fabulously extra, we hope you'll join us for another evening of friendship, philanthropy, and fun.

What a way to kick off the year - our first meeting is officially in the books, and it was a ‘storming’ success!

New faces and longtime friends showed up in full mountain chic - think cozy knits, boots, goggles, and plenty of fabulous hats.

A huge thank you to our gracious host, Village Wine, for serving up a signature Après-Ski Spritz that was truly the toast of the night. It paired perfectly with the delicious fondue generously donated by our very own members, Mallory Weber and Madalaine McDaniel. And to our mysterious sourdough benefactor - your bread was the perfect dip companion. We are very grateful!

To start the evening, our co-chairs reviewed the rules of membership, reminding everyone that our impact takes a one-year commitment to community and connection. If you’re not receiving reminder emails or texts, please reach out to Madalaine so you don’t miss a single update this year.

While our most recent winner, Angeled Kids: Foster Closet and Resale, was unable to attend, we were excited to hear from Walker and Rosie Memorial Fun Park, last April’s $12,900 recipient. Becky Doty shared that 2026 will be a true “build year” for the park. Plans are underway for the area’s only pump track - a paved path featuring rollers and banked turns designed for biking and skating. What an exciting addition to our community!

Our door prizes brought a little extra fun to the evening. Thank you to The Sapphire Luxury Spa and Blackbird Chocolate Company for their generous donations. Each winner received a $50 spa gift card and two beautiful boxes of specialty chocolates. Congratulations to Martha Siemer Stice and Jessica Carey — you both looked like you had just come in from a perfect day on the slopes!

For our Endowment drawing, the committee selected four nominations from a recent Facebook post. Each was secretly paired with a ski destination, and members voted by choosing their favorite “ski vacation.” The nominees were Hope 4 Horses Rescue & Sanctuary, The Study Shoppe, Jim Beam's Corner Cattery, and El Shaddai.

With the most “snowballs” cast in its favor, El Shaddai - a pregnancy and family support center that recently suffered significant flood damage due to frozen pipes - was our winner. The $4,000 check will go a long way toward helping them rebuild and continue serving families in need. This is what community looks like.

Thank you to everyone who braved the stormy weather, showed up, and helped us start the year with warmth, generosity, and a little alpine flair.

Our quarterly meetings are as follows:
Thursday April 23 - "Let's Par-Tea", location TBD (tea party chic)
Tuesday June 9 - "Dive into Decades" Gabby Goat (you pick the decade)
Thursday October 1 "Nowhere to Wear" Convention Center (dressy, fun or fabulously extra)

We can’t wait to see you at the next gathering — same spirit, new adventure!
