Alliance of Students Against Poverty (ASAP) at SIUE

Alliance of Students Against Poverty (ASAP) at SIUE ASAP is a non-profit, volunteer organization on SIUE’s campus that aims to serve those in the St. We are formerly recognized as the SIUE Homeless Program. Louis.

Alliance of Students Against Poverty (ASAP) is for those interested in serving the homeless by providing food, clothing, and hygiene items. Our group strives to help the chronic homeless of downtown and the sheltered homeless of St. We hold drives and collect items to provide to the homeless during our monthly outings. We also raise awareness about the needs of those in poverty on our university c

ampus. ASAP meetings are bi-monthly in the International Room in the Morris University Center on the second floor. We aim to provide these interactions of diversity to further the understanding of this issue for those who attend our outings. The importance of providing a handmade lunch complete with a sandwich, pretzels, cookies, fresh water, and fruit is crucial. Those we serve are without a warm home to retire their worries and woes to. The people we meet are just like us and genuinely appreciate each item they receive. Please, please donate food, clothing, or hygiene items to help a human being be warm, be fed, and be healthy. We deeply thank those who join Alliance of Students Against Poverty and encourage them to witness the momentum of kindness themselves. We also thank those who have previously or will donate to our cause!

Thank you Touchette Regional Hospital!

The SIUE Community Engagement Team would like to say a big THANK YOU to Touchette Regional Hospital in Centerville, IL for their donation of hand sanitizers today! These will assist students at SIUE in making essentials bags during their move in Experience this Fall! These essentials bags will be for students to take with them and be available to give to anyone they interact with that may be hungry/homeless in the surrounding communities. Thanks again for being a great community partner! We appreciate you and your help in making this happen for our event and our communities!

We received 3 boxes today with over 400 individual sized hand sanitizers!

Here’s the challenge:
Pick 1 to 2 community issues, such as homelessness, food insecurity, or senior care for example.
Create a service event based on an issue your organization identifies with that is currently affecting our local communities.
The basics of the challenge:
1. 25% of the engagement hours can be philanthropic
2. 25% can be educational in nature and
3. The remaining must be service-based
Things to remember: philanthropy is raising money or goods, education is about teaching values and ideas, and service is about improving the community and the people in it through physical effort.
