Cole's Eagle Scout Project I'm Cole Payne, a scout with Troop 216. I am extending the foot trail at Bohm Woods for my project. Hello! My name is Cole Payne.

I am 13 years old and a Life Scout with Troop 216 (Edwardsville, IL) working towards my Eagle Scout. This is my Eagle Scout Project journey. I have chosen the Bohm Woods Nature Preserve as the beneficiary of my BSA Eagle Scout Project. The objective of my project is to extend the current (dead-end) footpath an additional 3/4 mile, into a full loop path through the Bohm Woods Nature Preserve. I hav

e worked with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the Illinois Nature Preserve Commission, and my parents, to develop a path design that minimizes any impact to the preserve. The extended walking trail will provide the community greater access when exploring this old growth forest in addition to creating a firebreak for IDNR controlled burns and help volunteers maintain the forest. My project will also include the development of trail markers and a foot bridge. I have now received all the required approvals from the local Scout Board and district Scout Board to begin fundraising and recruiting volunteers and planning workdays. All community donations will go towards purchasing the required tools, supplies, hardware and providing food, snacks and drinks for volunteers. (https://gofund.me/58f5d083)

Hello Everyone! In preparation for submitting my Eagle Scout project to the Southern Illinois NESA 2024 Committee, for the Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award, we put together a video highlighting the project. Again, I’d like to thank the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission, HeartLands Conservancy, the The City of Edwardsville, Friends of Bohm Woods, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the dozens of volunteers that contributed over 345 volunteer work hours!

On April 11, 2024, I completed and passed my Eagle Board of Review, officially earning the rank of Eagle Scout. On June 9, 2024, I was awarded my rank of Eagle Scout at my Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Thank you to those who contributed to my Eagle Scout Project by donating and sharing my information along with the dozens of volunteers that helped develop the extended trail at Bohm Woods Nature Preserve.
